’90 Day Fiancé’: There are Huge Signs That This Scene Between Jenny Slatten and Sumit was Staged
One of the hardest parts of watching reality tv is separating what’s real from what’s fake. 90 Day Fiancé has been accused of exaggerating some storylines and even faking some scenes in the past. But the production team and people behind the show have stood firm in their stance that the storylines are real and that the show is real. But now, scenes from segments of The Other Way with Jenny Slatten and Sumit are being called out for being staged.
Jenny and Sumit’s relationship
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans may recognize Slatten and Sumit from the last season of the show. Last season, Slatten moved to India to be with Sumit. She gave up her job, her apartment, and her savings to be with him. Unfortunately, when she got there, Sumit told her that his family didn’t know about her so he wouldn’t be able to stay at her apartment. Then after Slatten had been in India for some time, a man showed up at her door and told her that Sumit was married. Slatten left India broken-hearted and hurt that she had been lied to.
TLC has been accused of faking storylines before
Sumit and Slatten’s storyline last season was so crazy that people accused TLC of making it up. But Senior VP of production and development at TLC, Alon Orstein, has claimed that the production team had no idea Sumit was already married when they started filming.
“I will say for us, and maybe because it’s just still fresh in mind, but when we found out that Sumit was married, that really caught us off guard,” he told E! News. “And I remember vividly where I was in the office when I heard about it and talking about it on the phone with our production partners, Sharp. It was definitely a moment.”
Was a scene staged this season?
Now, this season Slatten is back in India with Sumit, but this time they are staying at a new house that Sumit picked. On last week’s episode, we saw Sumit and Slatten arrive at the house as men were waiting there to do a blessing.
The problem with this scene is that according to sources, blessings like this never happen at night. Sources told Soap Dirt that priests usually come before sunrise to bless houses. The cows that are used in this process do typically bless the house by defecating, though.
In addition to the ritual being at the wrong time, Sumit and Slatten were not dressed properly for it. According to the sources, this is a very sacred ceremony so the couple would have been clean during it, not fresh off of an international flight and wearing old clothes.
In another scene, a flower pot was placed on Slatten’s head. According to the outlet, this is not part of this ritual. The pot being placed on a woman’s head is actually part of wedding ceremonies.
The sources did admit that house blessing ceremonies differ across regions so it could be that some of the aspects of the ceremony were legitimate.
