’90 Day Fiancé’: Tom Brooks Wants Fans to Know He Never Said He Was a Gentleman
90 Day Fiancé star Tom Brooks has a lot of fans and a lot of haters, as many reality TV stars do. While his Instagram comments are filled with women telling him how handsome he is, he’s also been known to receive a hateful DM or two. And he’s had his car tires slashed.
In an interview he did with The Domenick Nati Show on May 29, Tom said, initially, fans thought him to be an upstanding gentleman. But he never said he was. That was just their perception of him.
How Tom Brooks’ reputation changed on ’90 Day Fiancé’
“I went on this show not knowing what it was. I didn’t even really know what the show was about. In hindsight, I probably should have watched it. But you end up in this area of television and I was just myself. So good, bad, and ugly, you got all of me. I wasn’t pretending to be anything else. I was just myself. So I think I kind of upset people because in the first series, like, ‘He’s such a gentleman.’ I’ve never said that. I’ve never said I’m a gentleman. It’s just the perception of someone,” he said.
By the second season, Tom began to forfeit his reputation as a gentleman.
“The second series, by saying and doing certain things, obviously that’s changed the perception of me somewhat,” he said.
Tom says what 90 Day Fiancé fans saw of him on the show, in both seasons, are all parts of his personality.
“I’m all of those things. I’m kind, loving, and I’m an obnoxious pig as well. I own it. And I hold my hands up if there’s something wrong then I apologize for it,” he said.
When Tom Brooks asked Darcey Silva if she put on weight
One big interaction that cost Tom his status as a gentleman was his heated conversation with Darcey Silva that took place in a coffee shop.
Tom told Darcey he’d like to stay friends and she said: “I don’t want to be friends. I’m sorry. I think we’re gonna walk away completely. Fresh start for myself, for my family, for my friends. And it’s gonna be that way and it’s gonna stay that way. Move on with your life. I don’t want anything to do with you. You are nothing to me right now.”
“I’m glad,” Tom replied. “And try not to ruin the next one.”
After Darcey asked for the check (to pay for her and Tom’s coffee), she said, “I’m happy to move on. I’ve got bigger and better coming.”
And Tom said, “Did you put weight on?”
The comment didn’t sit well with fans.
Though he and Darcey aren’t speaking, Tom says he’ll always think of her as a friend.
“Until all of this blows over, you’re still living in the story. It happened so long ago and you’re having to relive it and you can’t really detract from that. Yeah, I don’t know. She’ll always be my friend,” he said.
