’90 Day Fiancé’: Why Jihoon Lee Says He Didn’t Take Deavan Clegg ‘Seriously’
In Season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Deavan Clegg has made a second attempt to move to South Korea to be with Jihoon Lee, the father of her son, Taeyang. However, the trip has been rocky to say the least, and now Deavan knows the lengths Jihoon went to get her and their family back to Korea. It turns out he doesn’t have a full-time job and he won’t be able to support Deavan and her two children like she originally thought.
This week, Deavan struggles with her current situation and what to do. Should she return to the United States? Or will she somehow try and make it work with Jihoon?
Deavan Clegg speaks with Jihoon Lee and his parents about money
Deavan left her comfortable life in Salt Lake City, UT to complete her family with Jihoon, but she soon learns that things will be harder than she ever imagined. Apparently, Jihoon only has a part-time job, and he isn’t making enough to support all of them.
Deavan meets up with Jihoon and his parents, Jung and Hong Ju. Deavan wants to know why Jihoon’s money is going into his mother’s bank account. She wants answers, but unfortunately, that’s made more difficult with the translator technology that’s supposed to help with their communication. It keeps getting everything wrong, which makes things worse and gets Jihoon very frustrated. He actually storms out of the restaurant after making a rude comment: “Just go back to America.”
Why Jihoon says he didn’t take Deavan ‘seriously’
Deavan goes outside to get some air and to get a handle on the situation. Jihoon comes over to talk with her in hopes of repairing things. He asks her if she thinks he’s a liar, and she asks if he wasn’t thinking about her when spending money when she was pregnant. He admits he was being selfish and spending money on himself.
Deavan asks why, and Jihoon drops a bombshell on her. “Because of long-distance, I didn’t take you seriously,” Jihoon says. That was a big mistake because Deavan tells him she never wants to talk to him again, and that her pregnancy wasn’t serious to him.
“I feel like everything I believed to be true is all a lie,” Deavan tells the cameras. “He never cared. He never took it seriously. I just feel broken.”
Jihoon makes another attempt to fix things
After things cool down, they try and talk things out again. Jihoon says he made a mistake, and he’s going to change. Deavan gives Jihoon an ultimatum involving some money Jihoon has saved.
“I need you to transfer me the $3000 today to prove that you want me to be here and to prove that you’re going to step up,” Devean tells him. Jihoon hurriedly goes to find his mother so they can go to an ATM and withdraw the funds.
“It’s not necessarily about having this money, it’s about knowing he’s not lying,” Deavan tells the cameras. “And I need him to prove he’s not lying.”
Jihoon returns with the cash, but Deavan is just emotionally exhausted from everything, and he takes her back to the hotel. In the morning, Jihoon returns to discuss things again in the light of day. Deavan decides to give Jihoon one more chance, and he has a month to prove himself. She also wants him to put his money in a joint bank account with her only.
“Within one month, if you haven’t changed, I will go back to America,” Deavan insists. “I’m giving him this other chance because I believe his son deserves another chance,” Deavan tells the cameras. “I’m doing this for our son.”
It looks like Jihoon will get another chance with Deavan, but will he step up to the plate? Hopefully, this little family will be happy together, and Jihoon will be able to find a full-time job to support them.
