Sumit finds a loophole for Jenny to stay in India without marriage

During the September 5th episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Jenny found re-applied for an extension on her travel visa for India, and she has more time to stay. However, with the revelation that Sumit has no intention of marrying Jenny, he takes her to an immigration lawyer to find out options to stay in India. During this trip, she finds out there are only two options.

Option one, give up her United States citizenship and apply for full-time Indian citizenship. This would require her to give up all of the social security benefits. She said that option was out of the question. Option two, Jenny could join the Hare Krishna movement and become a missionary to receive a visa. While Jenny is evident she’s non-religious, she is considering becoming a Hare Krishna devotee to stay in India.

Will Jenny be able to marry Sumit if she becomes a Hare Krishna devotee?

Jenny said it was never a plan to come to India to become a Hare Krishna, but it’s something she’s “willing to explore.” She said she would need to do some “heavy soul-searching” before committing to joining ISKCON. Sumit said personally, as a religious person, he enjoys hearing stories about the Hare Krishnas. He said he was brought up seeing the Hindu deity, Krishna, “as a superhero.” He said, “I can imagine Jenny as a Hare Krishna devotee, but it’s gonna be a little weird imagination because she is a very free spirit.”

Since Sumit made it clear that marriage is out of the question, Jenny’s only hope to stay in India is to become a Hare Krishna devotee. But what does it mean to be a Hare Krishna? According to Encyclopedia Britannica, “Believers devote their lives to serving Krishna and spend several hours each day chanting the Hare Krishna mantra. They are vegetarians, and they renounce the use of alcohol and drugs. Sex is allowed only for procreation within marriage.”

According to the official Krishna website, there are many positions. You can decide to become a “brahmachari,” which is a celibate student who will never marry. Hare Krishnas devote their lives to “severe austerity, prayer, and meditation,” according to this Krishna site. However, there are many levels of devotion. If a Hare Krishna devotee wants to spend their lives in the temple and never marry, that is their choice. However, it isn’t a requirement.

What will Jenny have to do as a Hare Krishna?

Now the question is, what exactly is a Hare Kristna devotee and what does it require of Jenny? She said, “I’ve seen the Hare Krishna people, and they’re dancing and singing ‘Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Hare. Hare.'” She said that joining the religion is “far-our there” because she doesn’t consider herself a “religious person.” Jenny asked the lawyer, “Okay, so if I apply for this type of visa, do I have to convince people to join the Krishna, you know, religion?”

The immigration lawyer replied in Hindi that she would do “nothing of that sort.” He reassured her that she doesn’t need to try to convert people. Jenny asked, “They’re giving you this visa to be part of this religion, but you don’t have to do anything?” She said that she personally finds it “very hard to believe.”

So will Jenny have to give up her sex life? That’s a possibility. However, it seems that according to the immigration lawyer, the Indian government isn’t worried about how strict the Hare Krishna devotees are to receive a visa. Perhaps if Jenny maintained celibacy until marriage, Sumit might actually have an incentive to marry Jenny.
