‘A Million Little Things’: Dan Bucatinsky Improvved Most of His Lines as Harrison
In A Million Little Things Season 4 Episode 15, “Fingers Crossed,” viewers meet Harrison (Dan Bucatinsky). He appears as Gary’s (James Roday Rodriguez) hospital roommate in the April 13 episode. ‘A Million Little Things’ guest star Dan Bucatinsky plays Gary’s hospital roommate, Harrison
ABC released A Million Little Things first look photos from season 4 episode 15 on April 8, and they included several of Dan Bucatinsky as Harrison. Harrison is in a hospital robe in the pictures, but Gary is fully clothed with shoes on his feet. They lay in hospital beds next to each other, and Harrison immediately recognizes Maggie when she walks into the room. Every week A Million Little Things likes to shake things up with new guest star appearances.
Per ABC, episode 15 is titled “Fingers Crossed.” Series creator DJ Nash directed and co-wrote the episode with Michelle Leibel. The synopsis reads, “The gang gathers for a fun and festive game night as a means to distract Gary from dwelling on a heavy situation.”
In A Million Little Things Season 4 Episode 14, Maggie felt a lump in Gary’s chest while they were in bed together. In the April 13 episode, Gary heads to the hospital to have the lump checked for cancer.
Dan Bucatinsky improvved most of his lines for ‘A Million Little Things’ Season 4 Episode 15
Producing director Joanne Kerns suggested Dan Bucatinsky for the part of Harrison in A Million Little Things Season 4 Episode 15. DJ Nash told TV Insider that he was very excited to work with Bucatinsky.
“It’s amazing,” Nash told the outlet. “We know about 147 people in common, and we’ve been fans of each other’s work for a while. Joanne Kerns, our producing director, has worked with him a lot, and when the part came up, she immediately suggested him. I was like, ‘Oh, that would be incredible.'”
Then Nash gave details about the many lines that Bucatinsky added to the show.
“He and I got on the phone and were joking around immediately. It was like, oh, this is perfect,” he added. “He came to set; a lot of the lines in that scene were actually not in the original script; we just improvved them on the day. He was amazing, such a good guy.”
‘A Million Little Things’: Here’s why Dan Bucatinsky looks so familiar
It’s no surprise that Dan Bucatinsky looks so familiar as Harrison in A Million Little Things. He starred as James Novak in the Shonda Rhimes series, Scandal. He also won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2013 for his work in Scandal. Bucatinsky is also well known for ABC’s The Baker and the Beauty and HBO’s The Comeback. He appeared in the short-lived ABC series featuring Katey Sagal, Rebel, as Professor Jason Erickson. Bucatinsky served as a consulting producer for Grey’s Anatomy while executive producing Web Therapy and The Comeback.
A Million Little Things Season 4 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC every week until the finale on May 18. New episodes are also available the following day on Hulu.
