In the A Million Little Things Season 4 premiere, viewers found out that Delilah Dixon (Stephanie Szostak) and Danny Dixon (Chance Hurstfield) are leaving to fly to France. Delilah was in France for most of season 3, so viewers worry that she and Danny might never return to the show.

Why is Delilah leaving ‘A Million Little Things’?

In the A Million Little Things Season 4 premiere, Delilah received a phone call that her father had a stroke. He might not make it through the night, and she wants to get to France as soon as she can. In the A Million Little Things Season 3 finale, Sophie (Lizzy Greene) and Danny (Chance Hurstfield) voiced that they do not want to move to France. However, after Danny heard about his grandfather, he realized it was important for him to be there for his mother. Danny told Sophie that he would go to support her so that Sophie could stay.

Later, Sophie and Delilah had a heart-to-heart, both realizing where they needed to be. Sophie told Delilah that she understood why her mother wanted to move to France. Both agreed that Sophie would stay in Boston, but Delilah would move across the continent. Near the end of the premiere, Delilah explained that being in Boston and at the family’s house reminds her too much of her husband, Jon (Ron Livingston). He died by suicide in the A Million Little Things Season 1 premiere. Delilah was happier in France, and for her mental health is leaving to move there. For at least a short time Danny is leaving A Million Little Things to support his mother in France.

Is Danny leaving ‘A Million Little Things’?

A Million Little Things creator and executive producer DJ Nash teased whether Danny is leaving the series in a recent interview. The EP was transparent about Stephanie Szostak’s status change from regular to recurring character in season 4. However, the plans for Chance Hurstfield’s character remain under wraps.

“I won’t say because we’re going to follow that story,” Nash told TVLine when asked if Danny is leaving A Million Little Things.

In the season 4 premiere, Danny’s boyfriend came to the Dixon house for the going away party. The couple held hands and many fans tweeted how sweet they were together. Danny has connections in Boston and did not want to move to France. Hurstfield is still listed as a series regular, while Nash revealed already that Szostak is recurring for season 4. Fans hope that Danny does not move to France with his mother.

‘A Million Little Things’ Season 4 Cast: Who Will Return? Who is leaving?

Although Szostak isn’t wholly leaving A Million Little Things, she does have significantly less screen-time in season 4. The problem is the same as it was for her in season 3. The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic threw a wrench in her traveling back and forth from her family in Connecticut and filming in Vancouver, British Columbia.

“She has, for the first two seasons, lived away from her boys and from her husband,” Nash explained in the same interview with TVLine. However, her ability to travel back and forth “went away with COVID, because the second she stepped out of Canada, there was a 14-day reset. So we wrote her out for [Season 3], thinking, ‘Oh, she’ll be back.’ And then she said, ‘I really need to be with my family more, I don’t want to do all the episodes.'”

The EP added that Delilah is in a few episodes early and returns for the finale. However, he’s unsure whether Szostak will return for the middle. Hopefully, the producers will provide the same transparency about Danny leaving A Million Little Things soon.

A Million Little Things Season 4 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC and is available for streaming the next day on Hulu.
