‘A Million Little Things’ Season 4 Premiere Recap, ‘Family First’ and Burning Questions We Have After Episode 1
ABC promised that the A Million Little Things Season 4 Premiere would answer all of our burning questions from the season 3 cliffhangers, but a quick recap shows it did not. However, viewers didn’t find out what happened with Gary Mendez (James Roday Rodriguez) when he invaded Peter Benoit’s (Andrew Leeds) home. Instead, the show ended with more questions from fans, like — Who was with Gary? Luckily, viewers can find the answer to that question below, but there are several unanswered questions.
[Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from A Million Little Things Season 4 Premiere, Episode 1, ‘Family First.’]
‘A Million Little Things’ Season 4 Premiere: What happened to Gary?
To recap, the A Million Little Things Season 4 premiere episode opens to Gary home safe for the night. Then viewers watch him wash the blood off of his arms as he listens to the voicemail that Darcy (Floriana Lima) left for him. When he wakes up the following day, Eddie Saville (David Giuntoli) informs Gary about the strange phone call he received the night before. This moment is one of many Gary has throughout the premiere — regretting what he did to Peter. Although Gary tells Eddie to forget about the call, Eddie can’t help but wonder who the woman was and why she felt the need to call and apologize for the hit-and-run so many months later.
The Howard Family
Rome Howard (Romany Malco) and Tyrell (Adam Swain) submit their documentary to a film festival in the A Million Little Things Season 4 premiere. Meanwhile, Regina (Christina Moses) wraps up the closing of her store with a heartbreaking voicemail to her customers. Tyrell finds out that his mom is doing well, but he still feels guilty for her deportation. In another clip, Rome discovers that Haiti’s airport is open, but he doesn’t want to tell Tyrell.
‘A Million Little Things’ Season 4 Premiere: Sophie and Maggie
Sophie Dixon (Lizzy Greene) slept at Maggie Bloom’s (Allison Miller) apartment and woke up refreshed after sharing her feelings about Peter on Maggie’s podcast. However, she gets a call from the Brooklyn police department that Peter was attacked and “beaten pretty badly.” According to Detective Craig Saunders (Brian Markinson), Peter might not survive.
Is Delilah leaving ‘A Million Little Things’?
Delilah Dixon (Stephanie Szostak) receives a phone call that her father might not make it through the night after a stroke. Although Sophie is upset about her grandfather, the teenager is more appalled to remain strong for her mother again. Meanwhile, Sophie felt that Delilah wasn’t there when she needed her (last season). Luckily, her brother, Danny Dixon (Chance Hurstfield), puts things into perspective. He also offers to go with their mom to France to support her. Sophie and Delilah understand that Sophie needs to stay, and Delilah needs to move to France.
According to TVLine, Szostak is only a recurring character in A Million Little Things Season 4 because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Series creator and executive producer DJ Nash explained to the outlet that Canada’s mandatory 14-day quarantine for travelers prevents Szostak from flying back and forth from her family in Connecticut to filming in Vancouver. Therefore, Delilah appears in a few episodes early in the season and then hopefully later on, but she is not a series regular for A Million Little Things Season 4.
‘A Million Little Things’ Season 4 Premiere: A farewell pizza night
When Sophie brings Delilah downstairs, the friend group throws a going away party for Delilah. She makes a toast to John because weekly “Pizza Night” was his idea. The widow explains to her friends that her house only reminds her of John, and she is so appreciative that they support her move to France.
Many side conversations happen at the party. First, Gary apologizes to Delilah, and the two make amends. Later, Milo joins Danny at the going-away party, and the young couple locks hands. Regina and Rome tell Tyrell that the airport to Haiti is open again. He chooses to visit his mom. The photographer who ambushed Gary’s apartment earlier in the day is back, this time to take a family photo.
Sophie runs to grab Charlie’s headband, but Gary cuts her off to ask how she feels about what happened with Peter. She’s upset that Peter is in a coma because he may never hear what she said about him on the podcast. Now Gary doesn’t even have the satisfaction of making Sophie feel better by assaulting Peter.
Jane Goodman, station manager from WCLN, calls Maggie to be the guest host on the Dr. Stacey Show for the next two weeks while they look for her replacement. Maggie accepts as long as she can bring Claudia along.
In the last few seconds, Eddie has a breakthrough with the phone recording of his mystery caller. Plus, Tyrell left Regina and Rome a sweet “thank you” video, noting that he is coming back.
In the last few minutes, Gary has a flashback of the night he ambushed Peter. Viewers find out that he had an accomplice helping him.
‘A Million Little Things’ Season 4 Episode 1: Burning questions we still have
The number one question viewers have after a recap of the A Million Little Things Season 4 Premiere (Episode 1) is “Who was with Gary the night he beat up Peter?” Christopher Gregory (Michael Weston) appeared with Gary in a flashback of the night in question. Christopher is Layla Gregory’s father — Sophie realized in A Million Little Things Season 3 that Peter sexually assaulted Layla. Sophie believes that is the reason that Layla died by suicide.
In the scenes for A Million Little Things Season 4 Episode 2, Detective Saunders tries to persuade Gary into admitting that he beat up Peter. Will the truth come out? Will Gary go to jail? Will he confide in any of his friends about what happened with Peter?
Plus, what was that weird prolonged handhold between Eddie and Delilah? Is there still something there?
Hopefully, viewers get answers when A Million Little Things Season 4 returns for episode 2 on Sept. 29, 2021, at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
