A Million Little Things Season 4 aired the finale episode on May 18, 2022. The show is over until the return of season 5. According to ABC’s schedule, instead of A Million Little Things, the network will air The American Rescue Dog Show tonight, May 25.
When ABC’s scripted shows return in the fall of 2022, Big Sky Season 3 steals the A Million Little Things Wednesday night 10 pm slot.
‘A Million Little Things’ Season 5 Release Date
Viewers have a devastatingly long time to wait until the return of A Million Little Things Season 5 (sadly not tonight) in early 2023. If it keeps its regular Wednesday night time slot, the series could return on Jan. 4 or Jan 11, 2023.
However, there’s good news with a midseason return date so late in the season. The spring season will have very few breaks if all goes as planned.
Why is the ‘A Million Little Things’ break so long?
Many viewers worry that ABC will cancel A Million Little Things since the break is so long between seasons. There are several reasons that the gap of AMLT is roughly seven months long. The production has time to catch up to run smoothly every week when it returns. Plus, rather than have a week off here or there, ABC has a solid chunk of time to run a different show. Additionally, Nash explained that he and the crew needed a break before the return of A Million Little Things Season 5.
“TC and I, having done 38 episodes really back to back,” Nash told TV Insider. “We were still editing season 3 when the season 4 writers room started. We’re really looking forward to having a little bit of a break to catch our breath and perhaps doing a shorter episode count this season. It seems like that’s what the network plans are too. We don’t officially have an episode count, but we’ve had some discussions about what we’d like it to be, and the number we threw out and the number they threw out were exactly the same number.”
What to expect when ‘A Million Little Things’ Season 5 returns
Although the news is bleak regarding the long wait for the return of A Million Little Things Season 5, there’s an intriguing storyline to look forward to.
“Some of the mystery that we will follow in Season 5 has already been planted, and you may not even be aware of it yet,” Nash teased in the TV Insider interview. “Some of it unfolds as the season progresses. We certainly are dealing with a lot of unresolved things that presented themselves in act six of our finale. If you get a chance to watch and rewatch the finale, there’s some great things there.”
In the last 10 minutes of the A Million Little Things Season 4 finale, viewers find out that Gary has a cancerous mass on his lung. He’s currently undergoing chemotherapy, and he didn’t want his friends to find out. However, Rome (Romany Malco) and Regina (Christina Moses) mistakenly watched a video that Gary made for his future child, “just in case” he doesn’t get better.
Jordan R. Coleman returned to the show as nurse Kevin, administering Gary’s chemotherapy, and he asked if they had told their friends yet. Although it sounds like he’s asking about cancer, could he be asking about the baby news? How long do Maggie and Gary wait to tell their friends about the baby?
