A New Sorcerer May Assist Doctor Strange in ‘The Multiverse of Madness’
In the first Doctor Strange installment, Stephen Strange’s scientific grasp on the world is challenged. He meets the Ancient One — capable of sorcery and magic beyond his comprehension. Her abilities exist outside his limited perspective — one tainted and controlled by a Western view of medicine and livelihood. Strange learns under the Ancient One. He becomes a student — back at the start — surrounded by peers more competent than he.
In the first installment, Strange is a pupil, and the Sorcerer Supreme is a mentor. Yet, now Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme and a new sorcerer, or should we say, sorceress, may be coming to lend a hand. Based on insider information, an X-Men character, with a history of sorcery (and a narrative tied to that of Doctor Strange), may be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU may be laying the groundwork for some narrative expansion.
Will Magik be in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?’
According to We Got This Covered, Nightmare will be one of the primary villains in The Multiverse of Madness. After this insider information leaked, fans and media outlets alike took to a similar presumption — Nightmare will be a link to the X-Men via Magik.
A history of attacks exists between Magik and Nightmare, and if Doctor Strange is not suited to combat the threat alone, she would be the perfect complement. Magik is a skilled sorceress, capable of teleporting between dimensions and wielding powerful spells. If The Multiverse of Madness is going to feature multiple parallel universes all occurring at once, possessing someone who can skillfully jump between time and space may not be a bad idea!
Not to mention, Magik becomes the Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Comics; thus, the MCU may be laying the groundwork for Strange’s replacement. One day, Benedict Cumberbatch’s contract will also expire. Who then will manage the balance of space and time? Who then will become the Sorcerer Supreme? Just like Storm comes to lead the X-Men, as a trusted confidante of Professor X, Magik may have a major role in taking over for Strange.
Is the Strange Academy coming to the MCU?
Some rumors suggest that Doctor Strange will form the Strange Academy — a place similar to Hogwarts for aspiring sorcerers — and such could become the inspiration for a Disney+ Marvel series.
Doctor Strange is the headmaster of the academy, and he is responsible for teaching young ones the ways of sorcery — after a series of unfortunate events leaves such sorcery misunderstood and largely absent (narrative conclusion for Doctor Strange 2?). And, as for one of the primary professors, you guessed it: Magik. Magik and Scarlet Witch are both instructors at the Academy, and both will appear in the second Strange movie.
Magik could easily come into a leadership role with time (if she joins the landscape early enough to learn under the Sorcerer Supreme). While fans will wait for information, such an introduction could work to develop two narrative offshoots at once — the X-Men and the Strange Academy.
