A Timeline of BTS and Halsey’s Genuine Friendship
Fans love the adorable friendship between BTS and Halsey. The artists collaborated on the song “Boy With Luv” for BTS’s EP Map of the Soul: Persona earlier in 2019. The song was a huge hit and the artists performed the collaboration at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. The members of BTS and Halsey are adamant that they are more than co-workers and are genuine friends.
The artists first met at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards
BTS and Halsey met at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. Halsey was already a fan of BTS and enjoyed their music and music videos. Before BTS’s performance, Halsey gave the members churros as a gift.
After the meeting, Halsey tweeted, “ok i just met @BTS_twt and they are the coolest! WOW.”
Ironically, iHeartRadio replied to the tweet, “Ok but when is the collab coming?”
Halsey visited BTS in South Korea
After their first meeting, BTS and Halsey remained friends. When Halsey toured in Seoul for her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom World Tour, she also stopped by to hang out with BTS.
In a now deleted Instagram post, she wrote, “You know there was no way I’d come all the way to Seoul without seeing these guys. Can’t wait to see them play Staples Center!!! I’m HELLA proud.”
The singer also wrote on Twitter, “We have been friends for almost 2 years! I am so lucky to know them and they inspire me so much. your boys are A+.”
They released their collaboration ‘Boy With Luv’
In 2019, Halsey teased the release of Map of the Soul: Persona when she shared the trailer for “Persona” on Twitter. In her caption, she simply wrote, “joon. king.” A month later in April 2019, Big Hit Entertainment released a teaser clip of the “Boy With Luv” music video. In the trailer, Halsey sat in a ticketing booth and then walked past BTS as they sat on a couch underneath a neon sign that read “Persona.”
On April 12, 2019, the music video for “Boy With Luv” dropped. The video broke several records including most-viewed 24-hour debut on YouTube after it received 74.6 million views. The music video currently has over 556 million views on YouTube.
They gave each other presents before the 2019 Billboard Music Awards
After releasing “Boy With Luv,” the song debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was then announced BTS and Halsey would perform the song at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, just two years after meeting. While rehearsing for the performance, Halsey gifted the members of BTS with friendship bracelets. The members then wore the bracelets while walking the red carpet before the show.
In a BTS Episode recently released by Big Hit Entertainment, fans got a behind-the-scenes look at the rehearsal process for the performance. After one rehearsal, BTS gifted Halsey with signed copies of their EP Map of the Soul: Persona.
BTS made fun of Halsey during their tour
BTS performed at MetLife Stadium for two nights for their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Tour. Towards the end of a performance, some of the members of BTS made fun of one of Halsey’s lines in “Boy With Luv.” Fans filmed the funny moment and the videos spread around Twitter.
Halsey discovered the footage and tweeted, “just landed in New York. somebody tell jimin and hoseok to hide before I find them and box them for clowning me onstage at MetLife. my own home state. the audacity.”
“miss halsey i admire your grit but must i remind you that you are… tiny….,” a fan tweeted at Halsey.
Halsey replied, “so is jimin. let’s do it baby I know the law.”
Instead of hurting any of the members, Halsey instead surprised BTS during their interview with iHeartRadio’s Elvis Duran.
Halsey performed with BTS on tour
In June 2019, Halsey performed at Wembley Stadium a week after BTS performed. The weekend Halsey performed in London, BTS performed for their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Tour in Paris. Halsey gave fans the shock of a lifetime by flying to Paris to perform “Boy With Luv” with BTS.
After the performance, Halsey wrote on Instagram, “garçons avec amour, maintenant et pour toujours. thank you so much for inviting me to share this moment with you…”
She then posted a Triller video of the group backstage before BTS’s concert began. The video was viewed on Instagram by over 6 million people. After that weekend, fans expressed how much they loved the friendship between BTS and Halsey on social media.
“Halsey and bts friendship is seriously the definition of friendship goals, like they are the types of friends to do the goofiest things together, always joke around and are very supportive one another, I’m tired of not being friends with them all as well,” a fan tweeted.
