A$AP Rocky Asked Fabolous for an Autograph as a Kid and He Said No: ‘I Was a Little Hurt’
Rapper A$AP Rocky grew up in an era of MCs like Fabolous. The New York native once had the opportunity to meet Fabolous as a child, but when Rocky looks back on the incident, he admits he was hurt by Fabolous’ actions.

Fabolous first started rapping in the late 1990s. He soon gained a reputation in the New York hip-hop scene and earned the respect of several fellow MCs.
Fabolous released his debut album Ghetto Fabolous on September 11, 2001. Coincidentally enough, the date was influential in New York hip-hop: Jay-Z released his iconic album The Blueprint the same day.
As someone who grew up in Harlem, A$AP Rocky grew up listening to Fabolous. Though they came from different boroughs, their love of hip-hop was identical.
Fabolous turned down A$AP Rocky for an autograph
In a 2022 interview on Drink Champs, Rocky looked back on a time when he tried to get a photo with Fabolous and an autograph from the rapper.
“I was just like, ‘Yo, Fab.’ I’m like 12 or something like, my heart pounding,” he recalled. “‘I can get a picture or an autograph?’ He said no to the picture, then I asked for the autograph.”
“I could tell like, he was lookin’ around and all that type s***, so I guess he was trying to be on 10,” Rocky added. “He was trying to be on point. So, as a kid, it really didn’t register to me. I was a little hurt. So, I went home and ripped down all his [photos],” he said while everyone laughed. “That’s still my n**** though, man.”
Rocky confirmed that since then, he’s had the opportunity to tell Fab the story himself. He also acknowledged that it taught him an important lesson about being a celebrity. “He was like, ‘Wow, crazy how s*** turn out.’ But, I just learned from it, I always try not to tell kids no.”
A$AP Rocky is preparing to be a father
Now, A$AP Rocky is all grown up, and has grown-up things to deal with. He’s gearing up to become a father with his girlfriend, music superstar Rihanna.
Rihanna reflected on the first time they crossed paths in a 2022 interview with Vogue. They performed her song “Cockiness” together at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, and Rocky got overly comfortable with the “Work” singer.
“He grabbed my a** on stage. That was not part of the rehearsal!” she recounted. “I was like, ‘What are you doing!?’” Rih decided to let it go instead of becoming upset. “My manager was like, Oh, God, she must like this guy a little bit. She never lets this s*** slide.”
Now, as the two prepare to welcome a child into the world together, she’s just happy to have him as a partner — in every sense of the word. “There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand bulls***; it’s just us living,” she said. I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”
