Aaron Rodgers’ Ex Shailene Woodley Drops Huge Clue About Why Their Engagement Ended
Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL but the athlete has also garnered plenty of headlines over the years for his life off the football field as well. He’s made news in the past for dating some very famous women including X–Men: Apocalypse actor Olivia Munn and former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick.
The New York Jets signal-caller was also engaged to Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley, but they never made it down the aisle. The Divergent actor said after they split, it was a really “s***** time in her life” although she never revealed what led to their breakup.
Now, in a new interview Woodley is discussing how she suffered a broken heart after dating A-Rod and giving some insight into why they didn’t last.
When Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley broke up
The former couple initially sparked dating rumors in July 2020. Then, in February 2021, Rodgers publicly admitted that he had a fiancée after accepting an award at NFL Honors. Later that month during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Woodley confirmed that they were engaged.
But in early 2022, reports began to circulate that there was trouble in Paradise and that their engagement was off with a source saying, “neither of them were happy anymore.”
But within weeks they were spotted out together and it was believed they had reconciled. However, things didn’t work out the second time around either and they pulled the plug on their relationship for good in April 2022.
What Woodley revealed about her heartbreak after Rogers split
Woodley recently sat down with Bustle to discuss her new series Three Women, which she began filming amid her split with Rodgers, and opened up about a past relationship. While she never mentioned Rodgers by name many fans concluded she had to be referring to the Jets quarterback. That’s because of the timing and the fact that she talked about her heart breaking twice and they had split and got back together before calling it quits again.
During the interview Woodley was asked: What helped you stop caring so much about performing for others?
“Just a broken heart. A broken heart that healed and broke again,” she responded. “I fell in love over and over with unavailability. I’m very open as a human. I love easy and I care easy, but I do not love lightly, and I do not care lightly … It’s really taken me a lot of time to understand that it’s not on me to fix or heal or do anything about [a relationship] other than protect the deep care and love that I have for the world and for my people.
“Ultimately, that has helped me walk away without the need to understand why certain things didn’t play out the way that I may have desired them to. I give all of myself. I used to be a person who, if you crossed me and disrespected that, would continue to give and give. And now you cross me, I respectfully go, ‘Thank you so much for that information. Have a beautiful life. I wish you well.’ Not interested.”
After their engagement ended, Rodgers was involved with a medicine woman named Blu of Earth. In December 2022, news broke that they were over. Weeks later, the football player was romantically linked to model and Milwaukee Bucks heiress Mallory Edens. But by May 2024 things between them fizzled out as well and they split.
