Sandler and Aniston collaborated for the first time for 2011’s Just Go With it. The romcom saw Sandler playing a plastic surgeon who pretended to be married so he could date other prospects without commitment. At the time, both were already known for starring in romcoms. So Aniston and Sandler had no problem working with each other. The pair quickly grew close because of their shared sense of humor. Aniston’s own comedy even caught the Uncut Gems star by surprise. In a 2011 interview with ScreenSlam, Sandler joked about how the Friends star was able to keep up with him whenever he improvised.

“A lot of times it was, I would improvise, and then Jennifer would come up with something. I would go, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa.’ And then I’d call cut. Because I’d say, ‘Let me do my s***. Let me do it,” he said.

Sandler once even further quipped that he needed extra help when it came to performing with Aniston because of how funny she could be.

“I know she is [funny] in real life, but it was pretty amazing when we were together how much fun [we had] and how she added and ended up beating me in scenes,” Sandler once told Access Hollywood (via FemaleFirst).

Just Go With It wasn’t the only project Sandler and Aniston did together. The two also came together for 2019’s Murder Mystery, where they played an actual couple caught in a billionaire’s murder scheme. Aniston explained why it took nearly a decade for Aniston and Sandler to be seen in a movie together again.

“It feels like a long time went by. And it was about timing, finding the right script,” she said in an interview with eNCA.

However, fans didn’t have to wait long after that to see Aniston and Sandler work together again. They collaborated just a few years later for Murder Mystery 2. And with the possibility of a third film, audiences might not have seen the last of the team up.

But behind-the-scenes, the Friends star and Sandler have been maintaining their friendship ever since Just Go With It. Sandler even gives Aniston flowers every Mother’s Day, showing how close they’ve become over the years. Speaking with People, Aniston touched on what exactly made their friendship work so well.

“Yes, there’s trust. We trust each other and we know that we’re going to have a good time,
she said. “We have each other’s back. We take care of each other. Neutral, deep respect for each other.”

It helped that Sandler hadn’t changed at all since their Just Go With It days.

“He’s just exactly who he is and has been since I’ve met him,” she said.

Likewise, Sandler appreciated Aniston’s company just as much, asserting that his co-star always made him happy just be seeing her.

“She’s just funny. She’s great hanging out with guys, great hanging out with girls, knows what to say, knows how to calm you down,” she said. “But I just remember, anytime I’d be out and I’d see her, I’d be like, ‘Oh, there’s Aniston.’ And we’d go over to each other and start laughing.”
