Adele will release her fourth studio album, which does not have an official title yet, later in 2021. The singer got candid in a recent interview about topics like her divorce from Simon Konecki, her weight loss journey, and her son Angelo.

Adele shared an anecdote about her experience taking Angelo to a Taylor Swift concert. Here’s what happened and what she has to say about it.

The “Someone Like You” singer opened up about her divorce and her son Angelo

Adele married charity entrepreneur Simon Konecki in secret in 2016 after several years of dating. The couple had one child, Angelo, in 2012. She filed for divorce in 2019, and the divorce was finalized in March 2021.

The “Hello” singer explained that there was no defining incident in her marriage that led to divorce.

“I was just going through the motions and I wasn’t happy,” she told Vogue in Oct. 2021. “Neither of us did anything wrong. Neither of us hurt each other or anything like that. It was just: I want my son to see me really love, and be loved. It’s really important to me.

This explanation has been challenging for Angelo, Adele’s 8-year-old son with Konecki.

“My son has had a lot of questions. Really good questions, really innocent questions, that I just don’t have an answer for.”

The “Rolling in the Deep” singer said that she wants her upcoming album to help her son understand the reasons for the divorce when he’s older.

“I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness,” she told British Vogue. It made him really unhappy sometimes. And that’s a real wound for me that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to heal.”

The Grammy-winning musician wants her latest work to do more for her son than just explaining her divorce from his father. Adele wants him to use it as a guide for how to treat a romantic partner when he’s older.

“I wanted… the album to show Angelo what I expect him to treat his partner like, whether it be a woman or a man or whatever. After going through a divorce, my requirements are sky-high. There’s a very big pair of shoes to fill.”

Adele’s son was amazed by the crowd at a Taylor Swift concert

Besides his parents’ divorce, another thing that Adele’s son Angelo doesn’t yet fully grasp is the extent of his mother’s fame.

The last time Adele went on tour, Angelo was only four years old. He has seen his mother prepare for shows in empty stadiums, but he always left with his father or a nanny before fans arrived.

When Adele took Angelo to see his favorite artist, Taylor Swift, in 2018, it was the first time he had ever seen a stadium full of people.

“His jaw dropped,” she described. “I got really annoyed! I was like, ‘Excuse me! This is what I do, you know.’ He said, ‘When we go on tour, should I have a seat next to me with Taylor Swift’s name on it for Taylor to come?’”

Adele doesn’t want to be as famous as Taylor Swift

Adele intentionally takes certain measures to make sure she doesn’t get too famous. For example, she said she disappears for long stretches of time, and that people are used to her “being a recluse.”

She is also making an effort to avoid ramping up her fame with the songs on her upcoming album. The singer said fans shouldn’t expect a hit like “Hello” from her 2015 album 25

“There isn’t a bombastic ‘Hello,’ ” she said of the highly anticipated fourth studio record. “But I don’t want another song like that. That song catapulted me in fame to another level that I don’t want to happen again. I’m not saying I’ve got ‘Hello’s in my pocket. I was just conscious that I didn’t want my story on this album to sound like that.”

But the singer also said that she’s working on blending her public persona and personal life. She used to avoid parties and going out to restaurants with friends because she didn’t want people taking her photo. Now, the “Send My Love” singer says she’s been warning her friends, “I’m getting ready to be famous again.”
