Adele is Hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ and Fans Think It Means an Album is Coming
Brace yourselves, everyone. Adele is coming. On Oct. 18, it was announced that Adele is hosting Saturday Night Live on Oct. 24 with musical guest H.E.R., and the news immediately lit up her fandom with excitement.
Given that most SNL hosts appear on the show when they have new work to promote—and given the fact that Adele rarely makes public appearances—her fans think this means an album is on the horizon.
Adele is hosting ‘SNL’ on Oct. 24, but she’s not the musical guest
The 32-year-old star shared her excitement about hosting the sketch comedy show on Instagram.
“Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!!” she said. “And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!! I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right. But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right?”
“It’ll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election,” the musician continued, “which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no! I am besides myself that H.E.R will be the musical guest!! I love her SO much I can’t wait to melt into a flaming hot mess when she performs, then confuse myself while I laugh my arse off in between it all. See you next week.”
Adele fans confused her ‘SNL’ news for an album announcement
Fans of the icon are hoping this marks the beginning of the next Adele era.
“I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE ALBUM YOU ABSOLUTE TEASE,” one Instagram user commented on the singer’s post.
“IS THIS ABOUT NEW ALBUM???” chimed in another.
Other Instagram users confused the SNL announcement for an album name debut. As one user said, “omg I really thought the album was coming out on october 24th and it was called H.E.R.”
Adele’s first ‘SNL’ appearance was in 2008
The Grammy winner’s first appearance on SNL was in 2008 in an episode hosted by Josh Brolin. It was the same year President Barack Obama and John McCain were running for President against each other. (And yes, Sarah Palin was there for the show.) Adele was relatively unknown in the United States at the time, but the episode ended up making her an “overnight success,” as she said in a 2008 interview about the experience.
Her second appearance was in 2016, when she was the musical guest in an episode hosted by Matthew McConaughey. Her appearance on Oct. 24 will mark her first time ever hosting the show. (Some artists serve as the host and musical guest—Adele has not.)
It makes sense that fans would theorize the impending arrival of a new album based on this SNL news. According to Showbiz 411—an outlet that correctly predicted the arrival of Adele’s 25—she could be dropping a new album as early as Oct. 30, the same day Ariana Grande is rumored to be dropping her last work.
If the British star were to be releasing new music, the Emmy-winning show would be great publicity leading up to it.
