aespa Debuts at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 With Their EP ‘Savage’
On Oct. 5, GISELLE, WINTER, KARINA, and NINGNING of aespa released their first EP, Savage. The band originally debuted with SM Entertainment in 2020 with a single called “Black Mamba,” and aespa dropped a second single called “Next Level” in May 2021. The K-pop group‘s debut EP Savage reached No. 20 on the Billboard 200, setting a new record on the chart.

While aespa originally debuted with a single called “Black Mamba,” Savage is considered another debut body of work by the K-pop group because it is the group’s first EP and physical album.
Savage has six tracks: “Aenergy,” “Savage,” “I’ll Make You Cry,” “Yeppi Yeppi,” “Iconic,” and “Lucid Dream.”
Leading up to the album’s release, GISELLE, WINTER, KARINA, and NINGNING held a press conference for reporters, which Showbiz Cheat Sheet attended. During a Q&A at the press conference, the members shared details about their experience making the album.
“Many people have been anticipating and waiting for our album and we are excited and nervous at the same time to finally showcase it,” WINTER said via a translator. “Most of all, we are happy to be able to share all the different sides of us and our unique charms through not just the title track but the B-sides as well. We hope everyone enjoys it!”
‘Savage’ debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200
Since their debut, aespa have set records on YouTube and music charts. After aespa released Savage, the quartet made history on the Billboard charts.
According to a press release, “aespa continues to make history with the release of their debut EP Savage entering at No. 20 on the Billboard 200, the highest ranking ever for a K-pop girl group’s debut on the US album chart. aespa entered 10 Billboard charts total and is currently #20 on ‘Artist 100’, which is also the highest debut ranking by a K-pop girl group.”
The press release continues, “The six-track EP, led by the title track ‘Savage,’ also ranks at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Selling Album chart, rounding off a remarkable fortnight which also saw Savage hit No.1 on iTunes’ Top Albums chart in 20 countries.”
aespa broke a new record on YouTube
When the group debuted with the single “Black Mamba” in 2020, the song’s music video became the most-viewed debut K-pop music video within the first 24 hours and the fastest debut K-pop music video to surpass 100 million views.
aespa followed “Black Mamba” with a single called “Next Level.” According to a press release, the “Next Level” music video “surpassed 50 million views on YouTube within 3 days, 10 hours and 20 minutes of release.”
The K-pop group broke this record when the “Savage” music video achieved 50 million views on YouTube within two days, showing how much aespa’s fan base has grown.
