After Debuting Her Girlfriend, Rapper Da Brat Explains Why She Kept Her Sexuality Private
Da Brat is a history-making rapper who transitioned into a popular radio host on the hit syndicated Dish Nation alongside RHOA’s Porsha Williams. Brat has used the platform to share her opinions on all things pop culture and has even shared a few personal tidbits. She’s gotten more personal recently by opening up for the first time about her love life.
Brat is dating businesswoman, Jessica Dupart, and went public with their relationship on her Instagram after months of speculation. Having never shared a relationship with the world before, Brat explained on her morning show why keeping her sexuality private was important.
Who Is Da Brat’s girlfriend, Jessica Dupart?
Dupart, also known as BB Judy, is the CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products and is estimated to be worth $5 million. A survivor of Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans native now resides in Atlanta, where Brat also lives and works.
Before creating her own hair product line, Dupart worked as a hairstylist for over 20 years and owned her own salon. She suffered a major loss when the salon caught on fire in 2013, which she refers to as her worst day in business. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but she lost everything and had to rebuild from the ground up.
“As the owner, I definitely felt that it was my responsibility to take care of all the other stylists that worked with me, even though I had no idea how I was going to do this,” she told Beauty Independent. “By God’s grace, we received donations from many in the community, which gave me the hope to keep on going.”
Dupart grew her product line by using Instagram influencers to promote them. Blac Chyna, RHOA’s Nene Leakes, and Christina Millian are a few celebrities who’ve promoted the line. Some of Dupart’s products are now available for purchase in Target and Sally’s Beauty Supply Store across the country.
Da Brat goes public with her relationship with Jesseca Dupart
Rumors surfaced that Dupart and Brat were an item for months. The pair had been spotted several times holding hands in public but neither of them commented on the status of their relationship. Dupart was also seen with what appeared to be an engagement ring in Feb. 2020 – as well as nail designs that spelled out Brat’s name.
Dupart was the first to post a picture to her social media of the two of them hugged up, along with the caption, “Yep,” with a heart emoji.
She took things a step further when she shared a video of herself gifting Brat a Bentley as an early birthday gift. In the caption, she addressed claims that they’d been hiding their relationship and described Brat as her “better half” and ” my forever.”
Brat followed Dupart’s post with one of her own, crying tears of joy for the Bently and expressing her love and gratitude for Dupart.
Prior to Brat confirming their relationship, she’d previously promoted Dupart’s business on her social media and shared images of the two at events.
Why Da Brat says she kept her sexuality private throughout her career
Brat has been private about her relationships throughout her entire career. She recently admitted that she dated Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star, Kirk Frost. She was previously linked to Allen Iverson.
While speaking on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, Brat opened up about why she decided to share her relationship with Dupart. Though she says she came out as LGBT+ in the 90s privately, she admits she was not always comfortable within her sexuality on a public level.
She noted that it’s because she’s not only found someone who loves her in a way that she hasn’t experienced before and is ready for whatever the world may throw at them, but also because she’s more comfortable being open now than she would have been in the past.
“I never confirmed anything because in the ’90s, it wasn’t cool back in the day,” she said. “I’m a little bit nervous because I’m not really used to talking about this thing because I’m not a public person when it comes to my personal life. But when you get blessed and somebody when you weren’t even looking for nobody, and they love you like you’ve never been loved before, it’s a whole different experience.
Brat also says that her relationship with Dupart is different because they are on the same level, while also adding that Dupart spoils her so it makes it easier for her to want to share her new happiness with the world. The pair have allegedly been dating for at least a year.
