After Fan Asks Erin Krakow If ‘When Calls the Heart’ Is Ending, She Says She Hopes to Be in Hope Valley ‘For a Good, Long While’
Don’t panic, Hearties. When Calls the Heart isn’t going anywhere, at least as far as we know. After a fan asked series star Erin Krakow if the upcoming season of the popular Hallmark Channel drama would be the show’s last, she quickly reassured them that, to her knowledge, the rumor wasn’t true.
Erin Krakow addresses fan question about the future of ‘When Calls the Heart’
Recently a When Calls the Heart fan took to Twitter to ask Krakow a question about the show’s future.
“There’s a rumor going around that this is the last season of When Calls the Heart,” the person wrote. “Do you know anything or hear anything?”
The actor, who has played Elizabeth Thornton on the show for seven seasons, was quick to respond.
“I haven’t heard anything about that!” she wrote. “We hope to be in Hope Valley for a ‘good, long while!’”
Many Hearties breathed a sigh of relief when reading Krakow’s answer, with several replying that they loved the show and didn’t want it to end.
‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 8 is coming in 2021
When Calls the Heart is currently in production on season 8, with new episodes to air sometime in 2021. While a premiere date hasn’t been announced, new seasons typically arrive sometime in February. As for season 9, fans will likely have to wait until after season 8 airs, as that is when Hallmark usually announces renewals.
While a new season of the romantic period drama is in the works, there is one change that may disappoint some of the show’s fans. Unlike in years past, there will be no When Calls the Heart Christmas special this year.
“We are sad and sorry right along with you, but [a special] wasn’t in the Christmas cards this season,” executive producer Brian Bird explained, according to a post on the show’s Instagram account. “If there ever was a year when the complicating factors of life would force a change in plans… 2020 is it,” he added.
But there’s a silver lining for Hearties. While they won’t be able to watch an all-new Christmas special on Dec. 25, season 8 of When Calls the Heart will have 12 episodes rather than the usual 10. Bird also promised fans “a holiday surprise.”
Plenty of romance is in store for ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 8, Krakow says
In addition to extra episodes, When Calls the Heart Season 8 will feature plenty of romance, according to Krakow. But she isn’t about to drop any spoilers about upcoming storylines.
“Oh, I don’t plan to share any details right NOW,” she tweeted on Sept. 27. “Just wanted to assure you all that there will be romance in S8. Trust me.”
Season 7 ended without a resolution to the love triangle between Elizabeth, Lucas (Chris McNally), and Nathan (Kevin McGarry). Many Hearties have taken sides and have strong feelings about which man the widowed Elizabeth should pursue a relationship with. They’re hoping that in season 8, she finally makes a choice between the two people who are vying for her heart.
