Aidan Shaw’s Ex-Wife, Kathy, Will Return for Season 3 of ‘And Just Like That…’
Max has yet to update the official release date for And Just Like That… Season 3, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t getting any insight into what’s to come. Recently, the cast and crew have talked about to expect from the upcoming season. Showrunner Michael Patrick King recently revealed Kathy, Aidan Shaw’s ex-wife, will return. But what role will she play in Carrie’s story?
Michael Patrick King reveals who will return to ‘And Just Like That…’ Season 3
Season 3 of And Just Like That… will look markedly different from the reboot’s previous two seasons. Two significant characters will be missing, as Che Diaz and Professor Nya Wallace will be no-shows. While fans will miss Nya and miss hating on Che, Michael Patrick King, the series showrunner, assures fans other characters will return.
During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, King revealed Kathy, Aidan Shaw’s ex-wife, will return for season 3 of And Just Like That… Actor John Corbett, who plays Aidan, was spotted numerous times on set, which gave away his involvement. Rosemarie DeWitt, who portrays Kathy, was never seen on set. Her involvement comes as a shock and creates excitement regarding how she’ll play into the storyline.
Kathy was mentioned in ‘Sex and the City’ but never seen
While Kathy made her first appearance in the Sex and the City universe in the reboot, she was mentioned before that. The show’s original run acknowledged her existence in season 6.
After Carrie and Aidan called it quits on their disastrous engagement, they ran into each other on the street. During that awkward meetup, Carrie learned that Aidan was married and a new father.
Carrie spotted Aidan standing outside a fabric store holding his eldest child, Tate, while Kathy was inside. Aidan offered to introduce his past love to his current partner, but Carrie declined.
Sex and the City 2, the much-hated second movie, mentioned Kathy again. She was never seen but Aidan spoke about her. At that point, they were still married, although Carrie and Aidan did share a clandestine kiss in Abu Dhabi.
It is unclear exactly when Aidan and Kathy decided to split. Did the kiss have anything to do with the end of their marriage? Still, Aidan did indicate that Kathy might have harbored jealousy over Carrie. After all, he did state that Kathy had “kept an eye” on Carrie and knew she married Mr. Big.
What will Kathy’s role be in ‘And Just Like That…’ Season 3?
In season 2 of And Just Like That… Kathy met up with Carrie to ask her not to write about the three children she shared with Aidan. Carrie made it pretty clear she never intended to discuss their mostly grown children. She also warned Carrie not to “hurt” Aidan again, a move that seemed to upset Aidan.
Kathy and Aidan have been divorced for years, but they are clearly still connected by their kids. So, what exactly will Kathy’s role be in season 3 of the reboot?
Michael Patrick King didn’t spill the beans. Based on her appearance in season 2, Kathy could serve as an adversary to Carrie and Aidan reconnecting. While Kathy seems nice enough, she has a vested interest and didn’t seem thrilled by the pairing when we last left her. It would be fun to see her inject a bit of drama into Carrie and Aidan’s on-again-off-again romance.
