Unfortunately for fans of RuPaul and campy drag numbers, Netflix recently canceled their original series, AJ and the Queen. That doesn’t mean viewers can’t hope for a season 2, some even starting a petition for more episodes. Here’s what fans wish would happen during the second season of Netflix’s original series, AJ and the Queen.

RuPaul stars in the Netflix original series, ‘AJ and the Queen’

Fans may know this drag performer from RuPaul’s Drag Race. However, RuPaul stars in a few other television shows, including an original series for Netflix. In it, the celebrity acts as the executive producer and as a drag queen named Ruby.

The character then befriends and takes care of a young child, named AJ. Together, they lip-sync their way through the country, on a road trip from New York City to Texas. (The series also starred multiple drag queens and Drag Race alumni, including Trinity the Tuck, Katya Zamolodchikova, Eureka O’Hara, and Chad Michaels.)

It’s been a few months since fans met this unlikely duo. Although some speculated that the series could continue for another season, Netflix canceled RuPaul’s original comedy/drama show, AJ and the Queen.

Netflix canceled ‘AJ and the Queen’ after only one season

Although some anticipated the series to continue for a few more episodes, during March 2020, RuPaul tweeted an announcement to viewers that Netflix did not renew AJ and the Queen for season 2. Some fans didn’t take the news too well. In fact, there’s even a petition going around, started by fans, urging Netflix to bring the series back.

“I honestly really enjoyed watching this show! It really opened my eyes, full to the fact that confidence is key and not everything can be picture perfect, but stand tall,” one Twitter user said, sharing a link of the petition.

Fans shared their thoughts for season 2 of ‘AJ and the Queen’ on social media

Will AJ go back to New York with her mother? Will Robert adopt his newfound friend? Season 1 left off on a bit of a cliffhanger, some viewers taking to social media about the abrupt ending. Other viewers guessed what would’ve happened during future episodes.

“THAT’S HOW THEY ARE GONNA END AJ AND THE QUEEN?? DOES ROBERT ADOPT AJ? DOES THE MOTHER STAY OF DRUGS? [DO] LOUIS AND PATRICK GET TOGETHER?? SEASON 2 IS NEEDED,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Season 2 of AJ and the Queen: Robert is arrested for kidnapping. Robert gets an adoption attorney to adopt AJ. Opportunity awaits in LA to be on a Drag Competition Show, hosted by [Michelle Visage,] leading to another cross country tour,” another Twitter user speculated.

Although AJ and the Queen may be drawing to a close, fans can still watch RuPaul on the Emmy-award winning reality competition series, RuPaul’s Drag Race. Now in its 12th season, this television show premieres on a weekly basis on VH1.
