Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter trial got underway on June 9 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Oscar-nominated actor is facing 18 months in prison for his role in the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin has pleaded not guilty.

The high-profile case has attracted plenty of media attention, with reporters and onlookers descending on the courthouse to get a glimpse of the star. Those who want to follow along with the proceedings at home can do so via Court TV, which is providing extensive coverage of the trial.

Hutchins was killed in October 2021 when she was struck by a bullet from a prop gun held by Baldwin, who was rehearsing a scene from the low-budget western movie Rust. Baldwin has said he did not intentionally pull the trigger and that the gun malfunctioned. Prosecutors dispute that.

Baldwin is not the first person to face trial as a result of the tragic incident. Rust’s armorer, Hannah Guitierrez-Reed, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in April 2024 after a jury determined she failed to follow basic safety protocols when it came to handling firearms on set. She is currently serving 18 months in prison.
