Alexa Demie Has a ‘Hard Time Being Vulnerable, Especially With Men’
Alexa Demie’s star has been on the rise for quite a few years now. The multitalented entertainer gave great performances in Mid90s and Waves. However, her portrayal of Maddy Perez in Euphoria is largely considered to be her breakout performance. Thanks to her character’s arc, Demie has had the opportunity to showcase her acting chops, displaying a wide array of emotions.
Demie’s character on Euphoria has displayed quite a bit of vulnerability, especially with her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Nate Jacobs. However, in real life, Demie finds it a lot more difficult to let her guard down. So how was she able to allow herself to be physically and emotionally vulnerable while filming Euphoria? In addition to relying on her acting training, Demie credits Jacob Elordi for helping her feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable.
Alexa Demie revealed that her ‘Euphoria’ co-star, Jacob Elordi helped her let down her guard
Elordi, of course, portrays Nate Jacobs in Euphoria. And while his Nate is the main antagonist of the show, Demie revealed that Elordi is nothing like his psychopathic character. In an interview with Collider, Demie got candid about what it was like to work so closely with Elordi in the first season of Euphoria and how his demeanor helped her tap into her character’s vulnerability.
“He’s such a great actor, and also just really a sweet person, in real life,” Demie shared about her Euphoria co-star. “I have a hard time being vulnerable, especially with men, so any other person, I maybe would have had a guard up, but it felt very comfortable and easy to let that down, working with him.”
The actors hung out on set all the time even when they weren’t filming
Elordi and Demie worked very well together. And the pair also made it a point to build up a rapport when the cameras weren’t rolling. This allowed them to build a connection independently of their characters. In the aforementioned interview, Elordi spoke about how he and Demie were able to establish trust with one another.
“Some mornings, I would get to work, and she would just walk in my trailer and we’d sit for two hours, talking and shooting the breeze,” Elordi recalled about his connection with Demie. “I think that was just established from the moment we were in that room together, during the audition. It just happened.”
Elordi wishes he had more lighthearted scenes with Demie in ‘Euphoria’
Of course, establishing a real connection made it all the more challenging when the Euphoria stars had to film some of their most toxic scenes. Elordi found the scenes where his character had to abuse Demie’s particularly tough. The pair often wished that their characters had more moments of levity with one another.
“Yeah, it was incredibly difficult,” Elordi shared of the physically abusive scenes. “It was also incredibly difficult to hurt [Demie] with words. We would always say that we wished we could just have a scene where we would just go get ice cream and watch a movies, or something like that. It’s difficult to hurt each other, when you care so much about each other.”
Filming those gruesome scenes between Maddy and Nate may have been a challenge for Demie and Elordi, but they pulled it off. It’ll be interesting to see how their characters continue to interact in the upcoming episodes of Euphoria.
