Ali Wong and Justin Hakuta are Divorcing
Another celebrity couple is calling it quits. Ali Wong and husband Justin Hakuta are ending their relationship after eight years of marriage and 12 years together. Their breakup currently appears to be amicable, with them vowing to remain civil for their young daughters.
How they met
Wong and Hakuta began dating in 2010. They met at the wedding reception of a mutual friend and instantly hit it off.
The Always Be My Maybe star joked about “trapping” her husband in her 2016 Netflix stand-up special Baby Cobra. “The first thing I learned about him was that, at the time, he was attending Harvard Business School,” she said at the time. ” And I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m gonna trap his a–. Going to trap his a–!’ And I trapped his a– initially by not kissing him until the fifth date, which is a very unusual move on my part. But I did it on purpose because I knew that he was a catch.”
They officially wed in 2014. Their wedding was held at City Hall.
The couple announce their divorce
Wong and Hakuta have decided to go their separate ways. While the reason for the split is unknown at the time, a source of the former couple insists it’s not an ugly breakup. “It’s amicable and they will continue to co-parent lovingly,” the source told PEOPLE. Wong’s rep also confirmed the news.
The couple have a prenup, with Wong joking that she began working hard after signing the document after she realized she “signed a document specifically outlining how much I couldn’t depend on my husband,” CNBC reported. “My father always praised ‘the gift of fear,'” she added. “And that prenup scared the s— out of me. In the end, being forced to sign that prenup was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me and my career.”
Wong and Hakuta are parents to two daughters: Mari and Nikki, who are 7 and 5-years-old, respectively.
Who is Justin Haukta?
Wong may be racking in millions but there’s a reason why Hakuta had his estranged wife sign a prenup. He is the son of Japanese-American inventor and TV personality, Ken Hakuta, also known as Dr. Fad. Justin is a successful entrepreneur. He previously held the title of vice president of GoodRx.
Despite his own success, Wong has been open about how he’s supported her growing career in comedy. It was Justin who launched a side hustle to sell merchandise like t-shirts and tote bags at Wong’s shows.
