Alicia Keys Shares What She Can’t Live Without
Singer and Grammy winner Alicia Keys is best known for the hit songs “Fallin’” and “You Don’t Know My Name.” Here are five things she says she absolutely can’t live without.
Alicia Keys can’t live without her sons Egypt and Genesis
Keys told O, The Oprah Magazine she would be lost without her sons Egypt and Genesis. She says her youngest son, five-year-old Genesis, holds a special place in her heart because he is so truthful (as most kids are at that age). Here’s what Keys said about her son:
My little guy, Genesis, is 5, so he states the truth exactly as it is, which is often hysterical—especially because he’s recently fallen in love with the F word. He can’t get enough of it, and it’s usually inappropriate, but what can you do? I told Egypt, “You better not have taught him that word.” He says Genesis learned it from Dad. I’m pretty sure he did, too.
Tea brings Alicia Keys joy
Another thing Keys can’t be without is her tea. Some people would vote for a cup of coffee any day, but tea tops this singer’s list. She says she loves the smell and the warm feeling tea gives her. Tea fans would agree with her that tea can offer a sense of comfort on those long, chilly days. “It takes just a few minutes to make, and in return, you’re surrounded by a beautiful scent and filled with warmth,” Keys told the folks over at O, The Oprah Magazine. “I really love chai, and if I need extra soothing, I’ll add raw honey.”
Hoop earrings are usually part of Alicia Keys’ outfits
Sometimes Keys likes to complete her outfit with a pair of hoop earrings. She told the publication she loves hoop earring so much that she keeps a few pairs in her bag. She likes to be prepared just in case she needs to switch into a different outfit. “I probably have three or four pairs in my bag at any given time, just in case I want to change during the day,” says Keys. “You never know what you’ll need, so I carry neon ones, blue ones, flesh tone, gold, silver, clear. It’s serious.”
Stevie Wonder’s ‘As’ is a song Alicia Keys can’t live without
If you ask Keys what songs are in her playlist, “As” by Stevie Wonder is sure to make the list. She tells the publication she likes the lyrics because they demonstrate how much someone is in love. “The lyrics list all these impossible things—like the day is night and the night becomes day, and 8 times 8 times 8 is 4—as a way of saying that’s how long he’ll be loving someone,” says Keys. It’s my absolute favorite song on planet Earth.”
Alicia Keys doesn’t forget to be thankful for the things in her life
Most people would agree that gratitude adds a bit of sweetness to life. Keys says being grateful helps her move past dark days. “If I’m in a place where a dark cloud creeps over me and I can’t shake it, I’ll list five things I’m grateful for,” she tells O magazine. “It could be anything from, ‘I’m grateful for my legs because I can walk and run,’ to ‘I’m grateful for that delicious breakfast I just had.’”
