Alicia Silverstone Told Drew Barrymore She Was Single and Ready to Mingle – but She Was Banned From Dating Apps Twice
Navigating the complexities of dating app profiles can be an adventure — even for famous actors. Just ask Clueless star Alicia Silverstone. Now 45 and divorced, she shared with Drew Barrymore that she didn’t have much luck with two dating apps she tried. But fortunately, she did find one that she said works well for her.
So, why did two dating app services ban Silverstone? And which one does she feel good about in the end?
Alicia Silverstone and ex Christopher Jarecki officially split in 2018
As reported by Entertainment Tonight, Silverstone married musician and actor Christopher Jarecki in 2005. In 2018, she filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” and listing their date of separation as 2016.
According to their order, Silverstone was to pay her ex $12,000 monthly in support through 2024, with possibilities for termination if he should reside with a romantic partner or roommate who reduced his housing costs.
Silverstone and Jarecki share a son, Bear, who was born in 2011. They agreed to share joint custody at the time of their divorce.
How did Alicia Silverstone get banned from dating apps?
As Silverstone explained, the first time she made a profile on a dating app, she didn’t use her real identity. “A few years ago, I tried to get on one of the dating apps and I put a fake profile because I wasn’t comfortable yet being me,” she said on The Drew Barrymore Show in October of 2021.
But she didn’t get the results she was probably hoping for. “I got kicked off,” the Clueless star shared. “I got banned.”
After looking to other single celebrities like Barrymore for courage, Silverstone decided to give dating apps another try. “I got the courage up because I heard that you were on,” she told Barrymore. “And I heard that Sharon Stone was on. So, I was like, ‘Well, if they can be on, I can be on.'”
And she was trying not to make the same mistake twice, so she put her discomforts aside and created a profile for her actual identity. “I went on as myself, and it took a lot of courage to do it. And then I did it, and I had a date with someone planned, and the day I went in to find out about the date where we were meeting or whatever, I had been banned,” she explained. “Poor guy.”
So, in the end, Silverstone said, “I got kicked off as myself, too.”
Which dating app worked for Alicia Silverstone?
According to People, Silverstone joined Bumble and said it gave her a renewed “hope” for dating. “I just think it’s a great way for people to meet,” she said of the app.
She explained, “You know, I think that it’s really nice that we have friends that can connect us. You can be set up by friends, you can be at a party and tell people, ‘Hey, do you know anyone?’”
However, while those options might work for others, they didn’t satisfy Silverstone. “I have experience where I’ll go to an in-person event, and no one’s really engaged,” she went on. “They’re sort of in their phones, and it’s a bit discouraging.”
She added, “It can be like, how are you supposed to meet anyone in the real world? You know what I mean?”
Though she called Bumble “an adventure,” she said she appreciates the possibilities it creates.
“I always thought it sounded so fascinating. It sounded like it opened up a lot of possibility for people and created hope,” she said of dating apps. “And I’ve heard tons of beautiful stories from people. I think it’s very much the norm now. And it makes sense. It’s kind of like going to a bar, but it’s more effective.”
So, in the end, it sounds like Silverstone found the right app for a satisfying dating experience.
