Why ‘All American: Homecoming’ Star Geffri Maya Looks So Familiar to Fans
Simone Hicks may be saying goodbye to Beverly Hills, but she is not leaving the All American universe altogether. The CW confirmed a spinoff series focused on Geffri Maya’s character will debut on the network. Now that Simone is getting her own spinoff, fans will see a different side of her. While she played a recurring role in All American, many fans noticed the young actor looked oddly familiar. Here’s where you might have seen the 26-year-old before.
‘All American’ fans might recognize Geffri Maya from a popular ABC medical drama
In the second season of All American, Geffri Maya was first introduced to audiences as Simone Hicks, Jordan Baker’s love interest. Once a casual fling, Simone ultimately gets pregnant. Jordan takes on the role of a father figure and eventually falls in love with Simone.
Before landing a role in the sports drama, Maya starred in the ABC medical drama Private Practice. According to IMDb, the young actor portrayed Maya Bennett, the daughter of Dr. Sam Bennett (Taye Diggs) and Dr. Naomi Bennett (Audra McDonald). Aside from the medical drama, Maya played a small role in Nasty Habits (2014), Everybody Hates Chris (2008), East of La Brea (2018), and Black-ish (2014).
‘All American’ showrunner teases the spinoff will include more familiar faces
Before the All American Season 4 premiere, showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll sat down with TVLine to discuss the new spinoff series. Carroll shared that the fans will see more individuals from Beverly Hills and South Crenshaw during the interview. “Simone will not be the only character recognizable from the Beverly Hills/Crenshaw world that we see land over at Bringston.”
Aside from Maya’s character, no one else from the All American universe will appear in the spinoff series. So, for now, any characters set to make a cameo in All American: Homecoming remains top secret.
What is the release date for the spinoff series?
According to Deadline, the All American spinoff will premiere on Feb. 21, 2022, on the CW at 9 PM. The CW spinoff series features a talented Black ensemble cast. The cast members include Cory Hardrict (The Oath), Sylvester Powell (99 North), Netta Walker (Chicago Fire).
Meanwhile, Kelly Jenrette will play Simone’s aunt and Journalism professor at the HBCU. All American fans might recognize the Emmy-nominated actor from the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale. Meanwhile, Camille Hyde will star in the spinoff series. She played the Pink Ranger in Nickelodeon’s Power Rangers Dino Charge. In addition, Hyde portrayed Alexandra Cabot in The CW series Katy Keene and Riverdale.
