In Between Two Ferns: The Movie, Ferrell plays Galifianakis’ boss. The premise of the movie involves Ferrell, playing a version of himself, discovering Galifianakis’ public access TV show, Between Two Ferns. In the movie, Ferrell sends Galifianakis across the country to interview celebrities for an online series. If Galifianakis succeeds, he will receive his own nightly talk show.

Like Ferrell, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen also play themselves in Between Two Ferns: The Movie. The trailer for the movie shows Teigen flirting with Galifianakis in a bar.
“I love your show,” she says. “What if we take this upstairs?”
Galifianakis asks, “What about John Legend?”
“He’s probably at home polishing his EGOT,” Teigen replies.
EGOT is an acronym for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Legend has notably won all four awards. Later in the film, Legend appears and Galifianakis interviews him.

Galifianakis interviews countless other celebrities in Between Two Ferns: The Movie. One of the celebrities Galifianakis interviews is Paul Rudd. While the full interview did not make it into the film, Netflix posted the extended version on YouTube.
Two other notable celebrities Galifianakis interviewed in the movie are Brie Larson and Matthew McConaughey. However, the list of celebrities does not stop there. Awkwafina, Chance the Rapper, John Cho, Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Dinklage, Gal Gadot, Tiffany Haddish, Jon Hamm, Rashida Jones, David Letterman, Keanu Reeves, Jason Schwartzman, Adam Scott, Hailee Steinfeld, Tessa Thompson, and Bruce Willis all appear as themselves in the film.
Fans enjoyed ‘Between Two Ferns: The Movie’
Between Two Ferns: The Movie received mainly positive reviews. It currently has a rating of 76 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers of the movie also posted praise on social media.
“If you haven’t watched BETWEEN TWO FERNS: THE MOVIE yet, you are missing out on some of the biggest laughs of the year. The outtakes alone are better than most of the comedies released by studios in any given year,” wrote Ethan Anderton on Twitter.
“I agree with the biggest laughs. It was hilarious,” a Twitter user replied.

Between Two Ferns: The Movie premiered on Netflix on Sept. 20, 2019. While a lot of the movie focuses on the celebrity interviews, it is stylized as a mockumentary based around Galifianakis. In addition to Galifianakis, the movie also stars Lauren Lapkus, Ryan Gaul, and Jiavani Linayao.
