Amanda Bynes Reportedly Files to End Her 9-Year Conservatorship
After Britney Spears won her fight to end her conservatorship, Amanda Bynes is reportedly seeking to follow in her footsteps. Here’s everything we know about this developing story.
Amanda Bynes is reportedly filing documents to end her conservatorship
According to Complex and new reports that came out on Friday, Feb. 25, Amanda Bynes has officially filed documents to end her conservatorship.
Her conservatorship began in 2013 when her mother, Lynn Bynes, gained control over her medical and financial affairs. The actor has not appeared in a film or television show since 2010.
The new report claims that she filed to end her conservatorship in Ventura County, California. The documents detail Amanda Bynes’ plea to terminate her conservatorship of her person and the estate. A hearing is allegedly scheduled for March 2022.
Amanda Bynes’ lawyer previously commented on her conservatorship
Per People in September 2021, Amanda Bynes’ lawyer, David Esquibias, spoke out on the actor’s conservatorship.
“Her conservatorship is not extended through March 2023,” he revealed. “It is open day to day. A status report regarding her health and welfare was recently filed and approved by the court. By law, the next status report is due in two years. Her conservatorship will terminate when it is no longer convenient for Amanda.”
However, in April 2021, Esquibias claimed that Bynes was “doing great.” He told People, “She lives by the beach, attends school, and is enjoying meditation and Soul Cycle classes. She looks forward to celebrating her birthday with family and friends.”
Bynes got engaged to Paul Michael in 2019, and her lawyer informed People that she was going for her bachelor’s degree at California’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Esquibias said, “Amanda is very entrepreneurial. She is investigating fragrances. She is now considering perfume in addition to a clothing line. But don’t get too excited. She is still a student at FIDM earning her degree.”
Neither Amanda Bynes nor her lawyer has commented on the news that she has filed to end her conservatorship.
The actor explained her conservatorship on social media
In 2020, Amanda Bynes posted a now-deleted video on her Instagram to explain her conservatorship.
“I have been going to a treatment center that charges $5,200 a month,” she said. “There’s no reason why I shouldn’t go to a therapist who takes my insurance for $5,000 less a month. This is why I’ve asked to see the judge next week regarding this conservatorship issue.”
Bynes added, “Thank you guys so much for hearing me out. I’m sorry that this is what I’m dealing with, and I’m sorry to put my problems on the Internet, but this is what life has come to. So, thank you guys so much for always supporting me. Love you all, peace out. Appreciate your love and support.”
