Amber Heard’s Worst Movie Deserves Its 0% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Before starring in the 2018 movie that earned her a not-so-coveted 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, Amber Heard played roles in several movies and TV shows. She began her career playing a minor role in 2004’s Friday Night Lights and then fulfilled a small role in North Country. In the 2005 movie, Heard played Charlize Theron’s younger character during flashbacks.
Since then, she’s appeared in movies like Syrup, Drive Angry, The Joneses, and Never Back Down as well as well-known comedies like Pineapple Express and Zombieland. These days, though, Heard is better known for her more recent role. No, we aren’t talking about the movie Aquaman, although she does appear in that, but more for her courtroom appearances in the defamation suit filed against her by megastar Johnny Depp.
For weeks, people all over the world were glued to their TV to watch Heard and Depp battle it out in the courtroom. Since then, a petition has circulated on Change.org to have Heard removed from the upcoming movie Aquaman 2. So far, it’s received well over four million signatures.
Amber Heard’s worst movie, which earned a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score
In 2018, Heard took the lead role as femme fatale Nicola Six in the film London Fields. In this movie, she plays a beautiful clairvoyant who has a premonition of her own murder. This leads to her having relationships with three different men — one of whom she is sure will try to kill her. The film is based on the novel by author Martin Amis and is intended to be a modern noir, according to IMDb.
However, the film clearly missed the mark, at least according to its 0% Rotten Tomatoes score. Critics had a lot to say about London Fields. Tim Stevens of Comicverse stated, “Every now and then a movie comes along that is so singularly ill-conceived, so gigantically rotten at its core, it demands I break the format. LONDON FIELDS is such a film.”
Jeanette Catsoulis of the New York Times wrote, “Quite simply, horrendous — a trashy, tortured misfire from beginning to end.” And finally, the LA Times’ Gary Goldstein observed, “The aggressively awful London Fields is, once again, proof that not every successful novel should become a movie.”
With those glowing reviews, it’s not surprising that the movie, given an estimated $8 million budget, only brought in a scant $487,420. Ouch. But the honors didn’t stop there. Heard, the leading lady in London Fields, was given the dubious honor of a 2019 Razzie nomination for worst actress. The Golden Raspberry Awards are given each February to honor the “worst of the worst” in film.
Other films that scored an embarrassing 0% on Rotten Tomato
The epic flop that was London Fields isn’t alone by any means. There are other productions that have earned the dreaded 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, let’s look at some of them now.
According to Insider, some sequels to movie classics made the 0% club: The 1983 flop Staying Alive starring John Travolta and directed by Sylvester Stallone, and Jaws: The Revenge (1987). While Staying Alive was the second and thankfully last sequel to the smash hit Saturday Night Fever, Jaws: Revenge was the fourth installment of the Jaws franchise, and was the direct sequel to Jaws 2, even though it was technically the fourth movie in the collection.
Other notables include Gotti (2018), another John Travolta performance, and John Henry (2020) starring Terry Crews. London Fields was indeed in good company.
