‘American Idol’ announced the former winner would return for season 8

Carrie Underwood was an aspiring singer when first learning auditions for American Idol were being held for season 4. Then, the 21-year-old took a chance on fame and fortune after admitting that, from a young age, she had always wanted to be a singer.

“I remember being at home in our little house in Checotah and seeing on TV that there were auditions in St. Louis,” Underwood said in a video shared by the series on Instagram. “My mom said, ‘If you wanna go, I’ll drive you.’”

“I went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show. I’m proud of everything that I was able to accomplish on the show, and I’m so proud of everything that I’ve accomplished since,” Underwood added. “Even if I go far away, this is my home.”

Since then, Carrie Underwood has become an award-winning, multimillion-selling recording artist, entrepreneur, and author—achievements she might not have reached if she had never set foot on the Idol stage.

The upcoming season of American Idol, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, returns in spring 2025 on ABC and Hulu.
