Amy Schumer Reacts to Jessica Simpson’s Weight Loss Post, Says She’s in ‘No Rush’ to Lose Her Baby Weight
Amy Schumer is keeping it real. Since giving birth to her son Gene in May, the comedian and actress has been sharing candid updates from her life as a new mom, including a snap of herself wearing her hospital underwear and another of her C-section scar. Now, she’s responding to singer Jessica Simpson’s 100-pound weight loss in a way that had many moms cheering.
Amy Schumer says she’s in no hurry to lose her baby weight
Simpson stunned fans recently when she revealed that she’d shed 100 pounds since giving birth to her daughter Birdie Mae in March. A mix of healthy eating, exercise, and lifestyle changes helped the 39-year-old go from 240 to 140 pounds, her trainer explained.
In an Instagram post, Schumer said she wasn’t exactly keeping pace with Simpson’s weight loss. She shared a photo of herself posing in a black bikini on the beach and made it clear she was happy with her current body.
“Ok Simpson! Well I’ve lost 10 pounds and 100 dollars to my sister playing poker,” the Trainwreck star wrote, adding that she’s in “no rush” to slim down and writing “give me my money back Kim,” to her sister.
Fans think Schumer looks great
Fans loved that Schumer wasn’t bowing to pressure to hide her post-baby body or get back to her pre-pregnancy size right away.
“Good for you,” wrote one.
“Great job Amy, you look fantastic!!!” responded another.
Others said they related to Schumer’s attitude about losing weight. “15 months later I’m still in no rush,” commented one.
“Exactly. No rush. Our poor new moms see the ridiculous example of most celebs wearing their jeans the week after child birth. Thank you so much for setting this example for the everyday woman who should be focused on healing and learning an entire new life and should be kind to themselves. You look amazing. Good for you,” wrote one person.
“Your reality and candor makes women like myself feel okay. Thank you,” added another.
Jessica Simpson responds
Simpson didn’t seem bothered by Schumer’s comments on her weight loss. She even responded with a humorous comment of her own.
“You’re hot,” the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer wrote. “Size only matters when it comes to men.”
The ‘I Feel Pretty’ star says she’s resisted pressure to lose weight
This isn’t the first time Schumer has talked about weight loss and the pressure for women, especially celebrities, to be slim. She said she gave in to that pressure before she started filming Trainwreck, as she explained in Netflix’s Amy Schumer: The Leather Special.
“When I was doing my first movie Trainwreck, before I did anything, somebody explained to me, ‘Just so you know, Amy, no pressure, but if you weigh over 140 pounds, it will hurt people’s eyes,'” she said. “I just bought it. I was like, ‘OK, I’m new to town.’ So I lost weight.”
But she later realized she didn’t like the way she looked at a smaller size.
“Thank god I look very stupid skinny,” she went on to day. “My dumb head stays the same size, but then my body, like, shrivels and I just look like, a Thanksgiving Day parade float of Tonya Harding … Nobody likes it. It’s not cute on me.”
