Amy Sherman-Palladino Reveals What It Would Take for Her to Create More ‘Gilmore Girls’ Episodes
Showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino has been busy with Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but some of her fans are still hoping she’ll create more episodes of Gilmore Girls. She answered whether she would return to the show. Find out what it would take for it to happen and more.
Amy Sherman-Palladino previously said they felt accomplished with the revival
Sherman-Palladino didn’t get to end the original run of the series. The revival gave her the opportunity to write her ending. However, there were immediately questions of whether the show will be back for another season.
“We just want people to watch these. Some people haven’t seen them yet,” she told Vogue. “This was the story that we wanted to do. We wanted to do this year — a year in the life. So we accomplished what we wanted to do.”
The writer revealed more about their plan. “We didn’t go in there with any intention of wanting to do more,” she admitted. “There were no discussions between us and Warners or us and Netflix of having anymore. We all went through this journey thinking we just wanted to make it a very special event.”
Scott Patterson said he would return for ‘Gilmore Girls’
There is one cast member who is on board for doing more episodes and that’s Scott Patterson, who played Luke Danes. He revealed he hoped fans will be able to see Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) together.
“I don’t think it’d be weird at all,” he told Us Weekly. “You must deliver on these things, and this is what people want. Fans have spoken. It’s not like they’re shy. They let their feelings [be] known. And this is exactly what they want. So I don’t see what the problem is.”
He also hoped fans would see Lorelei (Lauren Graham) and Luke’s wedding. But what has to happen to get more episodes?
She said everyone needs to be available
There are still Gilmore Girls fans hoping there will be another season after the revival. The show creator gave her answer to whether she would be interested in returning to the show again.
“You know, it’s the kind of thing where we hadn’t planned on doing the Netflix movies,” Sherman-Palladino told Entertainment Tonight. She added, “… Never say never.”
She then revealed what needs to happen for it to be possible. “It would just have to be the right time for everybody. ‘Cause it was [in 2016],” the creator explained. “It was, like, the moment where Lauren [Graham]’s like, ‘Hmmm,’ and Alexis [Bledel]’ like, ‘Hmmm,’ and Kelly [Bishop]’s like, ‘Hmmm.’ So we all just did it.”
Amazon Studios signed a deal with both Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino. Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios answered whether there are plans to take the show to the platform.
“We are talking to Amy and Dan about a lot of things. That hasn’t come up,” said Sanders. “But I do think it speaks to our overall philosophy when it comes to talent, which is we think it benefits us when we have talent that’s creatively happy and have opportunities to do many things. If that show were to continue and it isn’t for us, we would obviously be happy to see it happen.”
It looks like Gilmore Girls fans can still have hope that another season will be made. However, there currently aren’t any plans for another season.
