‘And Just Like That…’ Michael Patrick King Answers What Happened in Carrie and Samantha’s ‘Love Affair’ Reunion
And Just Like That… Season 1 ended, leading to an exciting reunion. Michael Patrick King answered how Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) hung out after her text.
Carrie plans to see Samantha in ‘And Just Like That…’
The new show started with Carrie and Samantha no longer friends. Carrie claimed Samantha stopped talking to her when she fired her as her book publicist, which made sense financially because books were no longer doing well. Samantha then moved to London.
However, Carrie and Samantha started texting each other later in the season. They only grew closer once Big (Chris Noth) died. Samantha sent flowers for the funeral and Carrie kept them even though it was against her original plan.
The season ended with Carrie spreading his ashes in France in remembrance of their time together there. She texts Samantha asking to get drinks, and she agrees.
Michael Patrick King says Carrie and Samantha resolve their problems
The show’s creator talked about the finale and plans for season 2 with Variety. Fans won’t get to see Carrie and Samantha spend time together, but King revealed how they spent time together.
“It’s very funny, because every single one of the writers has a different version of what happened during that conversation,” the producer admitted. “So, I think there was some Champagne. I think there was a grownup back and forth, and a love affair that they realized that something’s more important than being afraid to heal.”
“I’m sure they had a great night,” he continued. “To me, they had a great night and things became resolved. Once Carrie let go of an old, old love, one of her current loves came back in.”
King also said they’d continue to include texts from Samantha in season 2. So fans will get to hear from her in the future.
Kim Cattrall publicly reacted to her character continuing without her
Cattrall made it clear that she was done with the Sex and the City franchise. So it’s interesting that Samantha is alive and well in the new show. The actor shared her reaction to the texting storyline with Variety.
“It’s odd, isn’t it?” she asked. “I don’t know how to feel about it. It’s so finite for me, so it doesn’t continue. I think I would ponder it more if I didn’t have something like Queer as Folk or How I Met Your Father. That’s kind of where I’m centered around.”
Now that Samantha and Carrie have resolved their issues, it’s hard to imagine how else the publicist will be involved in the writer’s story. One thing for sure is that there will be some funny lines in the texting scenes.
