Andrew Garfield Carries Silly Cardboard Cutout of Co-Star Florence Pugh as She Apologizes for Absence
Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh star in We Live in Time, a starry-eyed romantic drama in theaters now. The A-list actors have been doing the usual media rounds, answering questions about their experiences filming the tearjerker. Recently, Garfield turned heads when he turned up at the We Live in Time Headline Gala sans Pugh. Instead, he brought another unusual date.
On October 17, the cast of We Live in Time arrived at The Royal Festival Hall in London. Celebrating the 68th BFI London Film Festival, Garfield and his co-stars, Adam James, Aoife Hinds, Heather Craney, Nikhil Parmar, Douglas Hodge, Lee Braithwaite, and Grace Delaney, posed for photos together. Garfield spent part of his time walking with his young onscreen daughter Grace Delaney. The sweet pair talked and held hands as the young actress celebrated her first movie role.
Garfield’s main co-star, Florence Pugh, made an unusual appearance in the form of a cardboard cutout carried by the Spider-Man: No Way Home actor. Pugh, who portrays a Bavarian fusion chef who receives an advanced cancer diagnosis, was unable to attend the We Live in Time Headline Gala. Although the 28-year-old didn’t disclose exactly why, she did take to her Instagram stories to inform fans. The Oppenheimer star wrote, “ENJOY! To everyone at the London Film Festival! So happy you get to watch this movie.”
Pugh continued, “My apologies for not being at LFF for @weliveintime.. It truly hurts not being there to celebrate the release but I’m raising a glass from very far away. Love to you all. Fingers crossed you don’t get up and leave.” She then shared a series of images of Garfield and her cardboard cutout, writing, “Adorabobble. Look at us go.” And “Lol. Genius. Well done Andrew.”
Over a year ago, Pugh made a different kind of statement on the red carpet at the 2023 Meta Gala. That May, she attended the prestigious fashion event with Italian fashion designer Pierpaolo Piccioli, who designed her look. The Valentino creative director dressed her in a white plunging gown from the haute couture label, adding a striking headpiece that complemented Pugh’s shaved head. At the time, the Midsommar star shocked fans with the bold buzz cut. Now, it makes more sense. She was filming We Live In Time.
Today, Pugh shared an Instagram video of her first look at her shaved head, which she did to portray a cancer patient in the romantic drama with Garfield. She captioned the video, “We Live In Time is premiering right now in London at LFF, and as I curate a special carousel I wanted share this which I JUST found. This was literally the first time I saw it and Chessie and I realised I forgot to tell my family.” In the time, Pugh rubs her nearly bald head with an amused look on her. She stated, “I’ll probably just send [my family] a picture today.”
We suspect a photo of her shaved head in the family group chat isn’t the most shocking thing Pugh has ever done. We also suspect Pugh is “very far away” filming another movie as she continues to expand her acting resume. In the meantime, Garfield can clearly hold down the fort, co-star or not.
