Andrew Garfield ‘Haunted by Guilt and Regret’ Over Emma Stone Breakup, Source Says
Spider-Man fans adored Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as a couple. The Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy actors met playing love interests in The Amazing Spider-Man, and they pursued a real-life romance for years. While they went their separate ways, they publicly supported each other’s Hollywood careers. Unfortunately, a source claimed that Garfield still feels “haunted” by his breakup with Stone.
Andrew Garfield is allegedly ‘haunted’ by his breakup with Emma Stone, a source alleged
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone seemed like the perfect couple after meeting on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in December 2010. By June 2011, reports rolled in that Garfield and Stone had started falling for each other. The actors gushed to media outlets about their love and how working together felt like a dream.
Unfortunately, Stone and Garfield decided to take a break from their relationship in April 2015. The media suggested they were fighting a lot and not getting along in their romance. By May 2015, the couple seemed back on again, as they were spotted out. But in October 2015, they broke up for good. “They still have a lot of love for one another and they are on good terms with each another and remain close,” a source told Us Weekly.
A source told Life & Style in October 2024 that Garfield feels “haunted by guilt and regret” over the 2015 breakup. “He’s convinced he let the love of his life slip through his fingers,” the source added. “But Emma is married now to Dave McCary and has a daughter, so Andrew is stuck with his memories.”
The insider added that Garfield’s friends are worried about his preoccupation with Stone. “Friends say Andrew will never find the right girl if he keeps moping about the past!” the insider continued.
The Peter Parker actor ‘wasn’t being the best partner’ to Emma Stone before their split, a source says
Several factors likely led to Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s split. However, a source told Us Weekly in April 2015 that Garfied’s role in Martin Scorsese’s movie Silence had a lot to do with the breakup. Garfield allegedly intensely committed to the role of a 17th-century Jesuit, which involved losing 40 pounds.
“He’d been in a dark place for months, getting into his role,” an insider revealed. “He wasn’t being the best partner.”
As a result, Stone allegedly ended the relationship and moved back to Los Angeles. “It’s finished,” another source said at the time. “It’s not just a break.”
A year later, Stone met her now-husband, Dave McCary, on Saturday Night Live. They tied the knot in 2020.
Andrew Garfield suggested that meeting love interests through acting doesn’t work
While Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone had a successful multiyear relationship after meeting on set, Garfield recently suggested that he doesn’t plan on trying this approach again.
He appeared on Amelia Dimoldenberg’s episode of Chicken Shop Date in October 2024 where he asked Dimoldenberg if she thinks she could find her future spouse on her show. “Yeah. Do you not?” she said. “But isn’t it just like meeting someone at work, except I’ve made [my work] into a date?”
“Yeah, exactly. And how many of those relationships work out?” Garfield noted. Regarding Hollywood dating, he added, “I mean, it’s, like, flash in the pan stuff, usually.”
Garfield most recently dated Kate Tomas, a “spiritual reader” from the UK. While the actor has a history of dating women in his field, Tomas is an author and “magickal practitioner.” They didn’t appear to meet through Hollywood.
