Spider-Man: No Way Home was released to theaters in mid-December 2021, shattering box-office records and surpassing fans’ wildest expectations. The film, which stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man/Peter Parker, has everything from suspenseful action to tender teen romance.

Still, for many fans, the highlight of the film was the appearance of several actors who played previous film incarnations of Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. Recently, Garfield opened up about his work in the movie, admitting that although his involvement was kept a secret from fans, he found a very touching way to celebrate the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tobey Maguire.

Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire made surprise appearances in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

While it was long rumored that Garfield and Maguire, who both played the character of Spider-Man/Peter Parker in previous film trilogies, would have cameos in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film’s trailers and clips carefully avoided any spoilers. When the two film superheroes finally appeared on screen, fans were awestruck.

Garfield and Maguire had not only been absent from any of the promotional materials, but the actors had both previously denied their involvement with the film. Fans might expect that the two were robbed of much of the opening-night excitement surrounding the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, as Garfield revealed in a recent interview, he and Maguire found a really special way to celebrate their work in the action blockbuster.

Andrew Garfield snuck into a screening of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ with Tobey Maguire

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Garfield admitted that he and Maguire snuck into a public movie theater to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home. As reported by Insider, Garfield said “I snuck into a theater on opening night and just watched with my baseball cap on and my mask…Me and Tobey snuck into a theater together and no one knew we were there. It was just a really beautiful thing to share together.”

Garfield went on to note how excited he is that he was able to work alongside Maguire, saying “I still can’t believe it happened.” Maguire is considered by many fans to be the original film Spider-Man, having portrayed the iconic character in Sam Raimi’s early 2000s Spider-Man trilogy. As for Garfield, he played Peter Parker in the rebooted Sony series, which kicked off in 2012. In 2016, Tom Holland took over the role – but fans clearly haven’t lost their love for Maguire and Garfield.

While Holland has received praise for his work in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it is Garfield and Maguire whom many fans believe walked away with the film. In fact, even though Garfield last portrayed Spider-Man in 2014, in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home has many fans convinced that he should come back for another round.

“Please #MakeTASM3! Andrew Garfield loves Spider-Man so much!” one fan wrote on Twitter, while another wrote, “Now I’m seeing a lot of make TASM 3 tweets, and even though TASM 2 wasn’t all that amazing, I still want Andrew to receive a closure for his films cause he absolutely f***ing deserves it.” While nothing has been announced regarding Garfield’s future appearances as Spider-Man, it’s clear that fans would be open to his return as the web-slinging Peter Parker.
