Andy Cohen Promises to Get Anderson Cooper Drunk During New Year’s Eve 2022 Ball Drop
Bravo’s Andy Cohen promised to carry on the tradition of getting his close friend and New Year’s Eve Live co-host Anderson Cooper drunk during the live broadcast.
For the past few years, Cohen plied Cooper with booze, despite the fact that Cooper doesn’t really drink alcohol. But Cooper’s been a good sport and matched Cohen’s shot count on air. Of course, that’s when the broadcast got a little sillier – much to fans’ delight.
Andy Cohen vows to keep the tradition alive with Anderson Cooper
Cohen shared a direct Instagram message from a fan. “First time caller. Long time listener,” the fan wrote. “If you don’t get Anderson absolutely wasted for New Year’s I will never forgive you. We have nothing else. Please hear our prayers.”
Cohen replied, “I will get him drunk like my life depended on it. America needs #drunkanderson!”
Another fan had another piece of advice. “Please get a haircut before New Year’s Eve.” Cohen replied that he will. During a 2020 discussion with Cooper and Stephen Colbert, Cohen joked about getting a haircut before the New Year’s Eve bash. Cooper referred to him as a “roadie” for the Grateful Dead because he was letting his locks flow.
Anderson Cooper didn’t love doing the shots
During the interview with Colbert, Cohen revealed the best way to send off an awful year like 2020. “You get Anderson Cooper very drunk, “he said. Cooper joked, “It’s not hard is it?”
Cohen said Cooper was such a “lightweight” when Colbert showed the clip of Cooper in pain from doing shots during the 2019 broadcast. “Honestly just having you play that, I have a gross Jägermeister feeling in my throat.”
“The irony is I’ve become the straight guy and have to drive the bus,” Cohen exclaimed. “Because this one is down for the count. He’s such a lightweight. If news breaks when we’re on the air, I’m going to be the guy that’s handling it.”
Fans love seeing Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper’s New Year’s banter
Cohen revealed that he gave Cooper tequila shots. “But then at the end, I think we did Jägermeister,” Cooper recalled. Cohen confirmed that Cooper had to do a Jägermeister shot at midnight.
“That’s what we like about this New Year’s show is it’s sort of like everybody’s New Year’s Eve,” Cooper explained. “It’s like you think it’s gonna be one thing. It ends up going off the rails. You sort of have a good time. But sometimes it’s just messy. And sloppy.” Cohen added that the evening is very authentic too.
In addition to seeing Cooper tipsy, fans love his signature giggle. Cooper and Cohen shared a promotional spot, which is when fans shared what they love most about the evening. “Am looking forward to spending NYE with you & Andy. Also looking forward to hearing that Anderson giggle too,” one person commented on Cooper’s Instagram share.
“Last year was epic. I was hollering all night as they got drunk together,” another person added. One fan wrote,
“Literally the only NYE show I will watch! I feel so much happiness seeing y’all do shots and laughing and truly having a good time! Bestie NYE!”
