Angelina Jolie Lets Her Hair Down With Carefree Curly Look
Angelina Jolie has evolved into a sophisticated movie star known for her elegant looks and occasional public appearances. When the 49-year-old does step into the spotlight, it’s often with her children in tow. However, the Maleficent star enjoyed a solo evening out on Saturday night at the 2024 AFI Fest, stepping out of her comfort zone in a new way.
Angelina Jolie loosens up with fun, beachy hair
Jolie recently let her hair down for the premiere of Maria at AFI Fest. The Eternals star enlisted the same celebrity hairstylist Renato Campora who styled her retro ‘70s disco curls for the September cover of CR Fashion Book. Many fans found her voluminous zig-zag curls uncharacteristic of Jolie, as many Instagram followers commented “stunning.” One said it best, “Wow. She looks amazing. So happy to see her out there doing what she loves.”
While Jolie’s recent looks have showcased poufier, more carefree hairstyles, this latest take was refreshingly different. Unlike the high-fashion waves of her editorial shoot, this style exuded a laid-back, beachy vibe with a deep side part and brushed-out curls. The Mr. and Mrs. Smith star certainly trusts Campora, who also styles the locks of Selena Gomez, Jennifer Connelly, Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Olsen, and Jessica Chastain.
Jolie paired her curly hairstyle with a gold high-neck slip gown, classic pumps, a black shawl, and matching gold earrings and bracelet. Makeup artist Raoul Alejandre gave the Oscar winner his signature look: a neutral eyeshadow, soft cat eye, and bold red lip.
Angelina Jolie enters a new era
Perhaps Jolie is relaxing into a reinvigorated identity after several tumultuous years battling her ex-husband Brad Pitt in court. The mother of six certainly got out of her comfort zone for Maria. The psychological drama reimagines the famed Greek-American soprano’s final days before she died in 1977.
As Jolie portrayed the real-life 20th-century opera singer, Maria Callas, director Pablo Larraín asked a lot of her. Jolie explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “I think when I was asked if I could sing, I thought, one, sing like an actor — I’ll sing as much as I can, I’ll do my best — not understanding what it is to sing opera.” She went on to call the preparation for Maria “a really emotional and very special and terrifying journey.”
The multihypenate called being “terrified again as an artist” a “gift.” She further explained that it’s “because you get scared and have to do something you’re not sure you can do, and surprise yourself.”
Jolie has certainly gotten out of her comfort zone, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, many times in her life. The veteran actor’s transformation over the years has endeared many fans to her. Looking at Jolie’s hair evolution alone shows a woman who’s uniquely pushed boundaries. It’s heartwarming to see her loosen up and smile freely again as she did at AFI Fest.
