Megan Fox was once seen as the next Angelina Jolie during the peak of the Transformers star’s career. She welcomed this comparison since Fox considered herself one of Jolie’s many fans. However, Jolie’s father felt Fox needed to meet other requirements before the comparisons truly meant anything.

What Jon Voight thought of Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox comparisons

Voight and Jolie have had a complicated relationship to say the least, but Voight never lost respect for his daughter. Jolie followed in his footsteps as an actor, and even took her career a step further by transitioning into a filmmaker. So despite their differences, Jolie couldn’t have made the Public Enemies actor any prouder.

“Yeah, she’s really remarkable,” Voight said in an interview with CBS News. “She’s got her own thing, man; she’s got her own way of dealing with things, you know? She’s very clear.”

Given Voight’s glowing regard for Jolie, it’s no wonder he took notice when fans compared another actor to her. In her earlier years, Megan Fox was seen as the potential second-coming of Jolie. Fox’s candid attitude and unique approach to interviews was very reminiscent of Jolie when the latter was younger. They even had the same attitude on things like their open love for tattoos and female friendship. Jolie has typically stated she doesn’t have many female friends. Fox was similar.

“But I don’t have a ton of female friends — I have one. Her name is Mindy and she’s a facialist. I don’t have many guy friends, either. I’ve never been a social butterfly. I don’t feel lonely or isolated. I have one really great friend and that’s all I need,” Fox once told Cosmopolitan (via E! News).

Voight, however, didn’t see the connection. At least not at that moment.

“I don’t think she is, no. She’s one of our finest actresses,” Voight said according to the Irish Examiner. “She’s gotten to that point in her career. Megan is just starting out but she has a lot of potential.”

In Voight’s mind, Fox would have to put the same amount of effort Jolie did in humanitarian work for the comparisons to hold more weight.

“Maybe Megan will start doing the things that Angelina is so well known for. Angie is known for helping with kids and for her concern for others. I think that would be wonderful for all of the kids if Megan were to do the same,” Voight added.

Megan Fox didn’t agree with Angelina Jolie comparisons

Fox might’ve agreed with Voight back then. Although the Jennifer’s Body star greatly admired Jolie, she felt she was a bit more fun.

“People compare me to Angelina Jolie, and she’s so serious and stoic,” Megan Fox told the New York Times (via Today). “I’m the opposite. When I do interviews, I say things that I think are hysterical. But because we live in a world of sound bites, you’re not allowed to have a sense of humor. Sarcasm doesn’t translate in print at all. And neither does self-deprecating humor. I’m not a tigress like Angelina. Of course, people want me to be. But I want to be the contradiction of that.”

Fox added that the interviews she sometimes gave, which was at the heart of the Jolie comparisons, were entirely made up.

“When I sit down to talk to men’s magazines, there’s a certain character that I play,” she added. “She’s not fully fleshed out — she doesn’t have her own name — but she shows up to do men’s magazine interviews. There’s something so ridiculous about always being in your underwear in those magazines, and you know the interview is going to run opposite those pictures. So, there’s a character that talks to all of them.”
