October 2021 has rolled around, and all the Halloween lovers know what that means: it’s time to get spooky in every way possible. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is no exception to this, as the Nintendo game spends the entire month of October gearing up for Halloween. However, this year, players have even more to look forward to throughout the month, including a special Nintendo Direct dedicated to discussing the Brewster update. Here’s every October 2021 event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Compete in a fishing event in ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ during October

Get your fishing rods and bait ready because another Fishing Tourney is on its way. On Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., players in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres can participate to earn rewards. Talk to C.J. at the Resident Services building to start the timer. The more fish you catch, the more points you receive. Then, you can exchange your points for prizes like the Fish Doorplate, Fish Drying Rack, Fresh Cooler, and more.

October even brings a new rotation of fish to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This month, you can find a Yellow Perch in the river and a Dab in the sea. The best way to catch them quickly is to use bait, but they’re also pretty common fish.

Day of the Dead shopping begins in late October

According to a post on Nintendo’s blog in Japan, October will bring a brand new event to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday to remember the dead, is celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2. However, Animal Crossing players can prepare for the event early by purchasing a marigold decoration from Nook Shopping on Oct. 25.

You can also celebrate Day of the Dead with a Candy-Skull Mask, which Gulliver provides in exchange for rescuing him on the beach. The game also has some Day of the Dead-inspired music players.

On Oct. 1, Isabelle will announce that you can begin growing pumpkins. To do this, purchase pumpkin stars from Nook’s Cranny or Lief and plant them as you would any flower. Green, white, yellow, and orange pumpkins will sprout at random after a few days, but if you water them frequently, you can get up to three from one start.

Pumpkins are required to make Halloween DIY recipes, which villagers will craft every day. Talk to them to receive the recipes. Even if you have them all, talk anyway because they’ll give you candy instead. You can also purchase candy from Nook’s Cranny to stock up for Halloween. Give the candy to villagers and Jack on Halloween to avoid getting tricked!

As seen in Nintendo’s blog post, there are a few new Halloween DIY items this year: the Spooky Tree, Spooky Trick Lamp, and Spooky Treats Basket, which players can carry around.
