Josh Duggar news: Sentencing to take place in April 2022 after guilty verdict
Josh Duggar’s trial concluded with a guilty verdict in December 2021 after his initial arrest in April 2021. He was arrested on suspicion of downloading and obtaining child sexual abuse material on a computer at his workplace, Wholesale Motorcars. Due to sufficient evidence, the judge and jury found him guilty of the crimes, The Sun reports. When the judge announced the guilty conviction, Josh Duggar’s wife, Anna Duggar, quickly exited the courtroom along with Jim Bob Duggar and other Duggar family members.
Now, Josh awaits sentencing. ABC News reports a judge set an April sentencing date, and it’s expected that Josh faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines for each count. Josh moves into federal prison after receiving his sentence.
Beverly Hills attorney Adam Michael Sacks told The Sun he expects the judge to give Josh a severe sentence. “The judge might say, ‘People looked up to you. You were on television. You should’ve been a better example for the people who watched you,” Sacks explained.
A Duggar family friend claims Anna Duggar sticks by her husband ‘no matter what’
With Josh Duggar’s sentencing coming soon, where does Anna Duggar stand? Josh Duggar’s wife remains quiet leading up to sentencing. But back in February 2022, she posted an Instagram post that lets Duggar family followers know where she stands. “There’s more to the story,” she wrote on Instagram, and she added a link in her bio to court documents.
Anna allegedly still has the same mindset going into sentencing. According to a Duggar family friend who spoke to Fox News, Anna believes in Josh’s innocence and continues to stand by him “no matter what,” Yahoo reports. The source also added that Anna “loves Josh.”
So, how does Anna cut through the negativity surrounding Josh in order to support her husband? The source noted her strong faith helps guide her and the rest of Josh’s family.
“I know the family and their faith is what will get them through anything, period,” the source noted. “Even if they don’t like what he did or what he was accused and charged with and found guilty of, they’ll always stay by him. It doesn’t mean they think it’s OK, but they’re always going to want him to grow and be able to get through it. They’re never going to abandon him or anybody in that case.”
Anna Duggar will likely still contact Josh Duggar in federal prison
With Josh Duggar’s sentencing coming in April 2022, Anna Duggar is likely gearing up for how she will stay in contact with her husband. According to call logs obtained by The SoJo Files, a true-crime podcast, Anna called Josh nearly 40 times from Dec. 12, 2021, to Jan. 2, 2022, while he resided at the Washington County Detention Center. Some of those calls reportedly lasted over 30 minutes at a time.
The closest federal facility to Anna is four hours from where she lives. It’s likely she’ll continue to call Josh to keep in touch regularly. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Anna can still contact Josh via telephone, email, or regular mail once he goes to federal prison. She may also be able to send him money.
