Looking at Anna Kendrick’s resume, you can see that there’s no shortage of movies. The actor has been in massive franchises like The Twilight Saga, movies with cult followings, like Pitch Perfect, and even films like Drinking Buddies that are mostly improv and didn’t even have a script. Though Kendrick was positively thrilled to book roles in these films and others, there’s only been one film that made her cry.

Of course, Kendrick is more than just an actor. Thanks to Pitch Perfect, she also proved herself to be a talented singer. Still, she was shocked when she was asked to audition for the movie adaptation for Into The Woods. Based on the beloved play by Stephen Sondheim, Kendrick’s role of Cinderella was highly sought after. When she learned that beat out her competition for the part, she was moved to tears.

Anna Kendrick reveals she cried when she got the part for ‘Into The Woods’

“I think Into The Woods might be the only movie I’ve ever gotten where I actually cried, like cried when I found out that I got the job,” Kendrick revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair. “It’s such an iconic show and it just means so much to me. And it never even occurred to me that I could play Cinderella,” the Eclipse actor shared.

In fact, even when Kendrick was asked to audition for the movie, she never dreamed that she could possibly play Cinderella. Instead, she had another role in mind for herself. “When I found out that they were making Into The Woods and they asked me to audition, I was like, ‘Oh, for Little Red,’ because when you do a stage version of it, usually like an adult woman plays Little Red Riding Hood. They were like, ‘No, we’re going to use an actual child for that,'” Kendrick recalled.

Why the actor didn’t think she could play Cinderella

Kendrick never thought she could play Cinderella because the character is in direct contrast with her personality. “The idea of playing soft open, vulnerable, full of heart and full of hope Cinderella, you know, just kind of blew me away that Rob Marshall saw that in me because Rob is so different from me,” Kendrick confessed about the director of Into The Woods.

Continuing on, the movie star gushed about her director for the film. “Like there are people that you meet and you’re like, one brain man,” Kendrick gestured. “And Rob Marshall and I are not that. And like he’s so generous. He is so optimistic. He so sees the good in everyone and I’m so the opposite,” the 35-year-old revealed.

But despite how different Kendrick is from Marshall, that didn’t stop him from seeing the actor as a great fit for the movie. Though the film released nearly six years ago, Kendrick still looks back on the experience with awe. She was especially enamored by the opportunity to get to work alongside acting legend, Meryl Streep.

Kendrick gushes over her fellow cast member, Meryl Streep

“There was a day where James Corden and I were watching Meryl Streep do “Last Midnight” and we were like just overwhelmed with like this sense of people would pay so much money to have the view that we have right now,” Kendrick shared. “To see Meryl Streep this far away performing “Last Midnight” and like we’re the idiots who get to just like be here. You know, this is the kind of thing like you should charge crazy prices for. And we just like get to be here. Yeah, that was an exciting day,” Kendrick added.
