Anthony Mackie Recalls ‘Mind-Blowing’ Call to Be the New Captain America
For Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Anthony Mackie, Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ brought a “mind-blowing” change to Captain America and the MCU. When Anthony Mackie, Kane Brown, and Kelsea Ballerini hosted the 2022 CMT Awards, an interviewer asked about Mackie’s reaction when his agent called to tell him that he was the new Captain America in the MCU Phase 4 after Chris Evans. And the actor could hardly believe it.

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, Anthony Mackie starred as Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon. And in Endgame, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) passed the Captain America shield to Sam.
However, Sam felt hesitant to take up the mantle of Captain America, leading to the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series.
However, fans saw Mackie as a show host at the CMT Music Awards n April 11, 2022. And Mackie called in a friend when Kelsea Ballerini could not attend because of COVID restrictions.
“I called my dude Kane Brown,” Anthony Mackie sai in an interview. “Picking up the slack, he s helping me out. And Kelsea’s going to be home getting her thing in and helping us out and chiming in when we need her.”
When an interviewer asked Anthony Mackie’s reaction to the Captain America call, the Marvel actor called it “mind-blowing.”

Part of the reason starring in the MCU is so important to Mackie is beca se of his family. Anthony Mackie’s kids with former wife Sheletta Chapital are a huge reason he’s proud to stand as Captain America.
“As a Dad of boys, it’s really cool when your kids can see you do something th t they can watch. We do all these movies, most of them our kids can’t wa h,” Mackie said. “But my kids were actually able to sit down and eat popcorn and watch The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, or Avengers, or all those movies.”
Mackie and Chapital split in 2018, the same year Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Infinity War released. However, he still has a strong relationship with their children.
“At this point, everything I do is for my little boys,” he continued, “so that’s the fun part.”

Some thought choosing Captain America actor Anthony Mackie was an odd choice to host the CMT Music Awards. However, the producers remained certain on the call.
“We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pair one of the biggest names in country music with one of the world’s most electrifying superheroes to host our biggest CMT Music Awards ever,” shared Margaret Comeaux, John Hamlin, and Leslie Fram said (via ComicBook.com).
Mackie presented at the 2021 CMT Awards and was excited to return.
While Marvel has not announced much about Captain America 4, fans can watch Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ alongside shows like Hawkeye and Moon Knight.
