Antoni Porowski reveals the ‘key’ to their ‘really good’ relationship
Porowski recently opened up to People about his relationship with Harrington. The celebrity chef shared that their romance “escalated quickly” due to the pandemic.
“Relationships were forged, relationships changed, and they were broken [in the pandemic],” he said.
Shortly before the pandemic hit the U.S., Porowski was filming Queer Eye in Austin and Harrington was visiting him. Porowski explained, “It came to a shutdown in New York — there was no toilet paper — and we decided to stay in Austin and fostered a dog. We went from being in a relationship and each having our own apartments and not having a dog, to living in the same place with a dog.”
“It escalated quickly,” Porowski said. “But I don’t have any complaints, which is kind of nice. When something is stable and really good — and you communicate a lot, and you check in with each other and with your own therapist about it — I feel like that’s kind of the key.”
Antoni Porowski once talked about vulnerability in his relationship
In a 2021 interview with Glamour UK, Porowski admitted that he used to struggle a lot with being vulnerable.
“I’ve had many therapists throughout my life, but the one I’m with now, Carol, I saw for a few months prior to the show [Queer Eye] coming out,” he explained. “I had this recurring thing of always needing everybody to love me, always wanting to please everybody and not being necessarily honest about my feelings, whether it was in relationships or friendships, because I just wanted to be agreeable.”
Porowski added, “In my relationships, I just didn’t want the person to leave me. I wouldn’t say I was having a bad day. I just wanted to be a version of them.”
According to Porowski, he has been learning to be more open about himself with Harrington, which has been beneficial for them.
“Now with my boyfriend I can say, ‘Hey, I’m having a sh*t day. I don’t want you to do anything about it, but I’m just letting you know that I’m going through it,’” he shared. “The first time I did that with him was the hardest, I just got chills thinking about it because it was a vulnerability that I’d never really felt before, being openly honest without the fear of rejection, which I always had before.”
