Following a drama-filled season 2 premiere of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, fans quickly fell in love with Kenneth Niedermeier and Armando Rubio. But with Armando’s family still not open to him dating another man, the couple will face plenty of hurdles as Kenneth attempts to start a life with him in Mexico. Armando and Kenneth emerge as fan favorites in season 2 of ’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’
In the season premiere of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, we learned that Kenneth hails from St. Petersburgh, Florida while Armando lives in San Felipe, Mexico. There is also a 26-year gap between them, though Kenneth certainly doesn’t look like a 57-year-old grandpa.
Kenneth and Armando met while attending a support group for gay fathers. Kenneth has four children from a previous relationship – all of whom are grown up – and Armando has an adorable daughter, Hannah.
One of the biggest hurdles the two will face this season revolves around Armando’s family and community, who are not very accepting of gay couples.
To make their situation even trickier, Armando’s family lives on the same property where he conducts his business. With Kenneth making the big move to Mexico to spend time with Armando, his family issues are definitely something they will need to overcome.
Armando and Kenneth open up about being the first male gay couple on ’90 Day Fiancé’
In a recent interview with ET Online, Kenneth revealed that he and Armando are “excited” about being the first male gay couple in the franchise. Kenneth is clearly looking forward to seeing the drama unfold, but Armando has serious concerns about exposing his life to the world.
Armando only recently told his family that he is gay and admitted that he is very nervous about how they are going to react to the show. He also revealed that he initially told his family that TLC was filming a documentary about his life because he did not think they would agree to appear in front of the cameras if they knew the truth.
“I’m a little nervous, personally, not knowing what to expect,” he shared. “I’m recently coming out so, you know, putting it out to the world is a big step for me.”
The two went on to explain how they hope their story inspires other gay men around the world. At the end of the day, they want others to know that “two men can love each other and have a great life together” despite whatever obstacles come their way.
What about that age gap?
Significant age gaps are nothing new for 90 Day Fiancé fans, but many viewers were surprised to learn that Kenneth is 26 years older than Armando. Given his age, Kenneth admitted that he was worried that being in his 50s would be a dealbreaker for Armando.
“I was surprised because of the age difference,” he shared.
Luckily, Armando didn’t care about Kenneth’s age and once they opened up about their feelings towards each other, the age thing went out the window.
“I said, ‘What about our age difference?’ and he said, ‘I don’t care.’ And once he didn’t care [shrugs] … it’s been the best relationship I’ve ever had,” Kenneth added.
Armando noted that it helped that they became friends long before anything romantic happened. By the time he thought about Kenneth’s age, he was already falling in love.
While Armando and Kenneth are quickly becoming fan favorites, they cautioned fans that their relationship on the show is not all smooth sailing. They did not reveal any specifics about the drama, but they did tease that they faced differences in “cultures” and “parenting styles.”
Are Armando and Kenneth still together?
The big question going into season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way is whether Armando and Kenneth are still together. The two have not revealed what becomes of their romance, but there are several clues that indicate they are still dating.
According to The Hollywood Gossip, the first indication that their romance is still alive is the fact that Kenneth’s house is currently on the market. He put his Florida home up for sale last summer for $350,000.
A few months later, Kenneth made the big trip to Mexico to visit Armando. Back in April, his daughter wrote on social media that she wishes he was home, an indication that he stayed in Mexico even after filming wrapped up.
There is also the fact that Kenneth and Armando did joint interviews ahead of the season 2 premiere. This strongly suggests that the two overcame the drama on the show are still together.
