Nicki Minaj may have let the cat out of the bag during her last interview with ET. She mentioned a sworn secrecy between her and the magical Adele and potential plans for a collaboration song. But, was she just pulling our leg?
Later, when we are drooling over what this genius mash-up might sound like, Minaj tweeted she was only joking around and being sarcastic. As bummed as we were to hear this wasn’t happening, we wondered: Are Adele and Nicki friends?

We won’t count out a collaboration effort just yet. To be honest, it’s not necessarily out of the question.
If you haven’t seen the viral episode of “Carpool Karaoke” from 2016, you missed Adele perfectly rapping Minaj’s lyrics in “Monster.” It’s clear that the queen of rap royalty has mad respect for the British singer as well, even if she was only kidding about working together.
We know for sure Nicki and Adele are both playful in nature. With Minaj’s fun and cheeky tweets, about having been kidding about a collab, and Adele’s Titanic-themed birthday celebration, it’s evident these gals are fun.
What is Nicki Minaj up to?
Minaj recently announced she would retire from the stage, with plans to start a family. Of course, fans had a complete meltdown upon hearing the news.
Recently, Minaj clarified what she meant by retirement in an interview with The Shade Room.
“When I posted that retirement tweet, I knew that I still had music that I already had recorded that was still going to come out,” she said. So the retirement was kind of talking about my album, meaning like, ‘Do I want to go back and record my fifth album?'”
Minaj continued: “It was really about the fifth album. Where do I stand with it now? I didn’t know my fans would act like that with the tweet. It hurt my feelings because I feel like the way I did it was maybe insensitive to my fans. But I didn’t think people were going to take it — I didn’t know it was going to be that big of a deal, so that’s why I deleted it.”
On a personal front, Minaj recently announced she married her boyfriend Kenneth “Zoo” Petty. The Super Bass rapper has been dating Petty since 2018.
On the Aug. 12 episode of her Queen Radio show, Minaj revealed she’s working on new music, which will impact her wedding timeline.
“I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now,” she said at the time. “We’ll do the big wedding later.”
What is Adele up to?
It’s been a rough year for Adele, as her heartbreak divorce from Simon Konecki played out publicly. While it may have been a painful split, the two are reported to co-parent very well and spend time with their son, Angelo routinely.
Adele has been regrouping post-divorce with family, friends, and a little travel. But, sources are saying she’s feeling mentally and physically ready to get back to her art. She pours herself into her music, and the Grammy winner suggests her next album will be just as personally fueled.
One source close to Adele, says we might expect something new later this year. Adele’s previous albums, 19, 21, and 25, were monster successes. While we’ve all come to love and respect her inspirational ballads, we might expect a little something different next time. Sources are claiming that she’s opted for a more upbeat song about her recent divorce. It may have a more optimistic vibe, reflecting on positive memories and the strength to move forward.
Adele hinted then a new ’30’ album might be in the works. She had previously mentioned that her last album would be the last numerically named. And, she did tell Carpool Karaoke’s James Corden, back in her viral 2016 episode, that her next album will probably just be called, ‘Adele.’ We’ll have to wait until November, hopefully, to see for sure.
