Are Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow Still Friends?
When we think of unlikely celebrity friendships, Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow’s longtime relationship usually comes to mind. The two have been friends since the mid-2000s and have often showcase their close bond in the public eye. However, the A-listers haven’t been spotted together in recent years, and many of us have wondered, are they still close friends?
Beyoncé and Paltrow became “really close” in the mid-2000s
Beyoncé and Paltrow’s close friendship kicked off in 2006 when they — along with their husbands Jay-Z and Chris Martin — met at a charity event in New York City.
According to sources, the couples instantly hit it off and vibed with each other the entire night.
In 2010, Paltrow opened up about that fateful night on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealing that she and Beyoncé “just kind of hooked up.” The actress had also shared that she and her then-husband, Martin, had become “really close” with Beyoncé and Jay-Z, adding that “they’re incredible people […] very, very kind, generous, good.”
The powerhouse couples went on to strike up a close bond that just got stronger as time went on.
In 2007, the A-listers were spotted hanging out together at that year’s Oscars. The following year, Paltrow and Martin attended Bey and Jay’s very exclusive wedding in NYC.
In 2013, the celebrities appeared to be closer than ever when both Paltrow and Beyoncé spoke out about their friendship during separate interviews.
While speaking with Now, the GOOP founder shared that her two kids, Apple and Moses, call Jay and Bey, “Uncle Jay and Beyoncé, Auntie B.”
As for Beyoncé, she opened up about her relationship with Paltrow while attending the premiere of her HBO documentary Life Is But A Dream. “She is incredible; she’s a great friend on every level,” the singer shared.
She then went on to explain how the two see eye-to-eye when it comes to parenting. “I think for us, protecting our daughters is so important and…keeping things on our own terms, so I will still be protective and make sure [Blue Ivy] has a childhood and a great time.”
Their friendship was questioned in 2016
In 2014, Paltrow and Martin announced their split. But despite no longer being together, the pair’s friendship with Bey and Jay remained intact.
The following year, Paltrow introduced Beyoncé’s performance at the Grammys, calling her “my beautiful friend.” When Bey and Martin performed together at the 2016 Super Bowl, the Iron Man actress was there showing her support while looking after her daughter, Apple, and the singer’s little girl, Blue Ivy.
While it seemed like nothing could ever come between the A-listers, fans began to question their friendship in April 2016 when Beyoncé released her Lemonade album.
In the song “Sorry,” Bey sings the lyric, “Becky with the good hair,” which caused many to speculate that another woman caused trouble in her marriage to Jay-Z.
While many people were making assumptions on who the mystery woman could be, Amber Rose suggested on a 2018 podcast that Paltrow was ‘Becky.’
“I definitely think that Gwyneth Paltrow is ‘Becky with the good hair,'” Rose said. “They were like friends, and then, like, you don’t see Gwyneth Paltrow with Beyoncé anymore. Now Gwyneth lost her husband, but like Beyoncé’s still with Jay. Paltrow’s rep swiftly denied the claim, calling it “completely absurd and 1000 percent false.”
Paltrow personally responded to the model’s claim on Instagram commenting, “that is ABSURD. Good lord,” after a user asked her to confirm the rumor.
The celebrities haven’t been spotted together since
After that whole ‘Becky’ situation, many wondered if those cheating rumors had driven a wedge between Beyoncé and Paltrow, especially since they hadn’t been seen together in a while.
Speculations surrounding their friendship kicked into overdrive when Beyoncé and Jay-Z were nowhere to be found at Paltrow and producer Brad Falchuk’s wedding in October 2018.
Though many were convinced the celebrities were no longer friends, some were quick to note that Bey and Jay were busy with their On The Run tour when Paltrow tied the knot.
Despite not making it to her wedding, Paltrow still shows her support for Beyoncé every once in a while. In 2019, the actress attended the singer and Jay’s GLAAD awards party. Though the A-listers weren’t pictured together, Paltrow receiving an invitation seems like a clear sign that she’s still close friends with Bey and Jay.
As for why they haven’t hung out together as of late, it’s fair to say that both parties have just been busy with their careers and families.
Though many thought Paltrow and Beyoncé’s friendship had ended, it seems to us that it’ll take more than a few rumors and busy schedules to come between them.
