Are Prince William and Kate Middleton Trying Too Hard to Look Normal?
Prince William has led anything but a normal life. He grew up in the lap of luxury, as crown Prince and heir to the throne. His mother was one of the famous royals of all times, and his parent’s divorce was a highly publicized scandal. So it’s kind of interesting that the persona he’s cultivated with wife Kate Middleton is one that seems so normal.
Kate and William are known to go out to enjoy a pint at the pub, and they were even seen boarding a regular commercial flight. All their excessively normal behavior has fans wondering if it’s all for show.
Kate and William dropped off Princess Charlotte on her first day of school
The most recent totally normal thing the heir to the British crown was seen doing is dropping off his daughter, Princess Charlotte, on her first day of preschool. They made it a family affair. Kate and William accompanied both of their older children, Charlotte and George. The couple’s oldest son is a returning student, but it was Charlotte’s very first time at school.
Although bringing your child to school on their first day is pretty normal, the school itself is actually an exclusive private school. George and Charlotte wore their uniforms, and Kate had on a nice flower dress for the occasion. The scene was pretty ordinary.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don’t seem able to pull off ‘normal’
Kate and William are constantly drawing comparisons to their younger royal counterparts, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The younger two recently caught a lot of heat for talking a private plane to Ibiza, despite being champions of the environment.
They were then spotted at a pub with baby Archie, and fans gathered that they were trying to appear more down to earth. Meghan and Harry are also constantly battling the media, much like Harry and William’s mother, Princess Diana.
Although they were silent on the private jet issue for a while, Prince Harry has defended his actions. He says although flying private isn’t ideal, it’s necessary for his family’s safety. Critics, including a former security advisor to the royal family, have come out and said commercial is just as safe as private. However, it’s not unheard of for new parents to do whatever they can to protect their children. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex can hardly be blamed for using their means to make sure Archie is safe.
Are Kate and William just trying to ‘out normal’ the other royal couple?
The overly normal feeling the Kensington Palace couple gives off has left some fans wondering if it’s all an act. It’s hard to believe the royal couple could be so ordinary, considering how extraordinary their lives actually are.
It seems like every time Kate and William do something normal, they end up in the news. Especially as Meghan and Harry live the more lavish lifestyle that they can afford.
The airplane incident seems especially suspect. Kate and William were seen on a budget flight very soon after Meghan and Harry were called out for taking a private plane. The plane they were on belongs to Elton John, a family friend.
It stands to reason that he’s also friends with Kate and William, and could loan them his jet also. They probably have a lot of friends with private planes. So the fact they made sure they were photographed on a commercial flight is a little telling. It’s clear they want to cultivate an image of normalcy, and maintain their appeal to the average person.
William and Kate probably aren’t trying to do any harm to Meghan and Harry with their normal behavior. The two couples just have different images that they want to maintain, and for Kate and William, it seems like normal is the name of the game.
