MTV ‘Are You The One?’ Season 8 Premiere Date and Sexually Fluid, Non-Binary Cast
MTV’s Are You The One? is back for another season. The cast will still consist of 11 women and 11 men; however, these housemates identify as sexually fluid or gender non-binary. The show is also casting for twins, but it is unclear if there will be twins on season 8. Up until now, the MTV reality dating show has only cast straight men and women.
‘Are You The One?’ concept
Are You The One? debuted in January 2014. The show follows 11 men and 11 women who live together while they attempt to find their perfect match. Their matches are already pre-determined using a matchmaking algorithm. They have the opportunity to go on dates and get voted into the “truth booth,” which tells the couple if they are a perfect match or not. Couples that are confirmed perfect matches from the “truth booth” stay in the “honeymoon suite” instead of the house, but still participate in ceremonies.
Every week, there is a ceremony where the singles pick who they believe is their match. Beams light up to identify how many perfect matches there are, but it does not reveal who the couples are. If the singles are correct in finding their perfect match, they share one million dollars.
Sexually fluid or non-binary ‘Are You The One?’ cast
Are You The One? production company, Lighthearted Entertainment, provides a separate form for casting sexually fluid people. There is also a form for twins to apply but they can only select male or female. However, sexually fluid applicants can choose non-binary.
Another casting call posted on Backstage.com called for “bisexual, pansexual, or sexually fluid single male models to star on the newest season of MTV’s hit show.”
From the applications, the show does seem to follow the same format. They are still looking for 11 women and 11 men who want to find their perfect match and win one million dollars.
