Ariana Grande Has Been Accused of Copying Another Artist With New Song ‘7 Rings’
Ariana Grande is apparently under fire for copying another artist.
The singer just released her well-anticipated single ‘7 Rings’ and though the song received many positive critiques, many are noticing the song sounds strangely familiar.
Could Ariana Grande be guilty of copying lyrics from someone else?
Princess Nokia made the first accusation
Many of us have heard Ariana Grande’s single ‘7 Rings’ by now.
The song was released on Friday and has since garnered 28 million views on YouTube. Many could easily tell Grande added an updated riff on “My Favorite Things,” from the hit film The Sound of Music.
The song is a boastful recollection of all the success Ariana Grande has had over the years and her want to buy expensive things for her and her friends.
Fans loved the song’s message and feel in love with the girly visuals throughout the video.
Unfortunately, not everyone loved the song and many have decided to point out why they believe Ariana Grande is guilty of copying lyrics from another artist.
The New York rapper, Princess Nokia, was the first to point out how familiar the lyrics in Grande’s new song sound.
The rapper took to Instagram to question what she believes to be more than a coincidence.
In the Instagram video, that is know deleted, Princess Nokia is seen listening to a few seconds of ‘7 Rings’. After that, the rapper turns on a few seconds of her song ‘Mine’, a song off of her 1992 mixtape released in 2017.
In ‘7 Rings’, Ariana Grande sings, “My wrists, stop watchin’, my neck is flossin’/Make big deposits, my gloss is poppin’/You like my hair? Gee, thanks, just bought it/I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it [Yeah].”
Whereas the lyrics in Princess Nokia’s ‘Mine’ are, “Rock my many styles then go natural for the summer/Hair blowing in the Hummer/Flip the weave, I am stunner/It’s mine, I bought it/It’s mine, I bought it.”
After listening to both songs Princess Nokia asks fans, “Does that sound familiar to you? Because that sounds really familiar to me. Ain’t that the little song I made about brown women and their hair? Hmm. Sounds about white.”
Though some of the lyrics resemble those of Princess Nokia, the song does address the many hardships Ariana Grande has faced in 2018.
Not only that but Grande also pays tribute to her six girlfriends who got her through the tough times with matching Tiffany rings.
‘7 Rings’ reminds people of a Soulja Boy song
Not only is Ariana Grande getting called out for copying Princess Nokia’s lyrics, but many are accusing ‘7 Rings’ of sounding very similar to Soulja Boy’s 2010 hit “Pretty Boy Swag”.
Soulja Boy posted a fan’s self-made video of a news outlet comparing the two songs that make have made many wonder if Ariana Grande put her own twist on the 2010 hit?

Even though Soulja Boy only captioned the post “Arianaaaa?????? Ariana?!”, many can’t help to speculate if this coincidence was actually intentional.
Ariana Grande has yet to comment
There has not been an official word from Ariana Grande or her team about the accusations.
Since the song was released just yesterday, many people are still looking into the similarities.
